Hi all,
Well, I have a train running finally and now I want to upgrade my rolling stock to metal wheels. I saw Will's Wheels in Ztrack and was wondering what you thought. I've never converted wheels before so I'm not sure what I should be looking for. By the way, all my rolling stock is MTL.

I like Fox Valley wheels myself. It makes the cars roll much better and allows you to pull more cars with your loco. I think Robert mention he likes the click the wheels make going over the rail joints. It does add some cost per car, but I think the longer trains makes it a good buy. JamesTraction

I have both Fox Valley wheels and Full Throttle wheels. I lean towards the FT wheels... although, I don't know if there is any real differences between the two. ALL of my MTL rolling-stock is converted to metal wheels. If you buy AZL rolling-stock, metal wheels are standard equipment.

Hello Mark, The following link contains a pretty good primer on Z Scale trucks, wheels and couplers. It may be slightly dated but contains some good information. jamesriverbranch.net/clinic_2.htmRegards, Cliff

Mark, Not too much I can add. I use both types of metal wheels without problem. The metal wheels seem to leave less crud on the track than the plastic. If you have a grade on your layout, you may want to check a couple of metal wheeled cars. The plastic wheels generally hold on a 4% grade, while the metal will leave you with a runaway boxcar. The added weight of the metal wheels also seems to make the lighter cars, such as flats and gondolas run better, less bobbing.
Hope this helps,
Mark

Thanks once again for the advise. LOL!! I love the runaway boxcar bit Mark.
Oh, how do you determine 33 or 36" wheels. (edit) WOOPS, I just read the link Cliff gave me. Excellent article Cliff, thank you.
