Hello hello, I would like to know if someone have already installed a head front light on these locos? I'm trying to figure out what would be the best option (working DC) to install a small LED (brand, size, voltage...) Thanks,

Hi Charlie,
I have installed several headlights since I specialize in LED Lighting and Engine Service including DCC Installation and Programming. It is not a good idea to have the wires lose from the lead swinging truck as the wires can and will get pinched. I use litz wire and color correct 603/402/nano/pico LED's. I do drill out the brass. This is not a job for the 1st timer unless you are used to working with these small delicate items. It's all about the right tools and set-up, holding jigs etc. Take the extra time to make the installation "invisible".
The lighting is an absolute must if you own and run these magnificent brass examples in Steam. While you are at it, run a light to the firebox for effect and light up the tender with a reverse tender light for the models that did not come with one. Don Fedjur

Thank you for your advices. Is it possible to pick up power directly and independently for the LED, or would you connect it to the engine?

Charlie,
If you are running straight DC as the model comes from the factory, you simply run the LED wires to the track pick-up. It's a good idea to have a diode for reverse polarity. Since you are wanting to light the lead-light primarily, you run the positive connection side of the LED using a resistor to the red wire or right rail power pick-up for the engine. Solder simply to the phosphor bronze fret that is the power pick-up wipers at the drivers.
If you are running DCC.......run the wires including your resistor to the output function wires on the decoder. Example, the white wire is for the front or forward headlight.
Have fun, this is a great and simple lighting project that really enhances this great investment. Don

Ok thanks, that's what I guessed as I'm running them in DC.
