Hello All,
I am new to Zscale and would like to ask a question if I may.
I have my track layout planed and now getting all the track to complette it.
There is no power routing on my turnouts and no blocking. I have 2 complete rail lines (track) for trains to travel on and one rail line for yard switching.
I will be running 2 to 3 trains at the same time no more than 3 most likly 2.
I am looking at a dcc system such as the digitrax Zephyr Xtra or the new NCE Twin 3-Amp Dual Control Stationary DCC System with Power Supply
what one would be best for my system? the Locos I am getting are dcc ready they are AZL GP38-2 @ of them and a 50007 Light Mikado Locomotive Canadian National
AZL 50007
could I use the digitrax on MTL as well?

If you are going to only run 2-3 trains, a 3A power supply would be a bit of overkill. Most Z locos run well under 250mA. You'll also want to have some short-circuit protection. A derailed truck shorted across the tracks can melt very quickly in Z.

For power I use a Digitrax Zephyr with a DT402 plugged into it (the DT402 is usually used on my HO scale layout). I can operate 3 trains independently on my small coffee table layout. I typically run trains with a minimum of 2 engines so the Zephyr is supplying power for six engines and 3-4 stationary decoders without a problem. The Zephyr is hyper-sensitive to shorts, but I consider that a good thing.
