Here is my present control panel :
Since I will all the way make some modifications at the front panel, I would like to adapt, if possible, the "look" to my era, 1965 (despite the fact that inside there is a very "modern" electronic system with microcontroller, but this is "invisible" ). The first version that I wanted to build used a rotary switch for train selection and Nixie (!) displays for a countdown when in automatic mode, but I had some issues with the front panel design. So I wonder finally if the digitasts are not a bit "anachronistic" : the oldest project with digitasts that I could find was from 1984. I other terms : does anybody know if these switches already existed 1965, or if I should rather use pushbuttons (I remember the front panel of my first Amp-Tuner 1968) ? Thanks for any answer ...

For 1965, the prototype might look something like this: Which is the style I like. Mark

Thanks for the answer ... Unfortunately this is not compatible to my control system. So when I see the 3-positions selectors I think that the most similar would be the system with the rotary switch (with a "bakelite like" arrow knob), I will try again to design a front using this (but without Nixies, I am afraid that the high voltage could cause interferences). And I have control lamps as seen on the picture, with a chrome border (for vintage cars, but I equipped them already with leds which are more reliable). Or, if not possible, I will use (perhaps interlocking) pushbuttons without control lamps (I have spare ITT Shadow switches and knobs left from my former layout in 1981), at least this looks a little bit like the range selectors on the vintage tuners.
But first I will finish my town ...

I looked at the front panel : unfortunately the already drilled holes don't allow me to put other switch system, for several reasons (for example, the screws for a pushbutton "bar" would be exactly in the same places as presently the tumblers) ... So I must ask first if my carpenter can make another panel, which could be adjusted precisely in replacement of the existing one. Otherwise ... I must keep the digitasts !
