Wow .Full Throttle 100 toners WM/ CSX cars are gone . Now if we could get AZL to add some Western Maryland road names to there locomotives . Would be nice like SD 40-2,F3’s,F7 A&B, RS 3. I know GP 7& 9’s are not going to happen. “Repaint” is the only way for them.

What you have there is a GP40-2. (one major difference being 4-axles versus 6-axles for the SD) Chessie did have some SD40-2's and AZL has mentioned them among the roadnames being offered. Here's Scale Train's HO version: www.scaletrains.com/product/rivet-counter-ho-scale-emd-sd40-2-chessie-systemI couldn't find any evidence of WM-sublettered SD40-2's but I'm definitely not well-versed on the history of Chessie locos. Does seem to be a handful of WM SD40's. (not -2) Hans did allude to eventually producing a GP40-2 though, so there's definitely still a chance that 4257 sees the light of day in Z-scale. There looks to be ample supply of the other CSX cars from Full Throttle, for the moment at least. While not easy, it is possible to remove the CSXT and/or C&O reporting marks if you want more WM.

Here is a pair of B&O Chessies ...... Best, Sven

Doug is correct Chessie did not have any WM SD40-2's. A book I have Chessie System Diesel Locomotives by Jerry Doyle, Shows 5 GP40's and 12 SD40's on the Chessie WM roster on June 1st 1976 By Jan 1 1987 They still had the 5 GP40's, the 12 SD40's Plus 34 GP40-2's in the Chessie WM Roster But their was no mention of Chessie WM SD40-2's. I don't think C&O had any either. I will have to dig through some of my books to confirm this, but believe B&O was the only one with SD40-2's in their Chessie system Roster.

I have Jerry Doyle's book that David referenced "Chessie System Diesel Locomotives", a must have book for Chessie/CSX fans in my opinion. Probably one of the few train books I have that I've read through cover to cover multiple times. Per the book, page 59, Chessie had one brand new order of SD40-2's on their roster and they were delivered as B&O Units in the Chessie paint scheme, units 7600-7619 built Feb/March of 1977. This book also details the three various Chessie "C" paint variations on most locomotives depending on where they were painted at (the manufacturer, Cumberland, MD, or Huntington, WV). I've found examples of Chessie WM SD40's (just not the -2) as mentioned in the post above (maybe I'm just not looking hard enough).
I'm also looking forward to AZL's SD40-2 Chessie release. My dad worked at the Cumberland Locomotive Shop from 1977-2009 as an electrician and retrofitted many SD40-2's of CSX heritage later in his career to include ditch lights along with numerous other electrical repairs and seeing these in person made them my favorite locomotive model.
For what's worth, the locomotive shop also used to have a static N scale size display of the Cumberland facility in a little building outside the main shop. I used to frequently go to the shop with my dad when my he would pick up his pay check and looking at that display is one of many of my favorite memories of going to the shop.

Hey you may want to check Ztrack Resale. We just listed a Full Throttle WM 100 ton hopper and the Southern Drags set that includes a WM hopper. Sorry not the CSX version though... these are the original WM hoppers. www.ztrackresale.comRob

Western Maryland was slow in repainting their Loco's to Chessie paint. They were still painting some of their units to the then newer Black Red White scheme even after they had been fully integrated into the Chessie System. None of Western Maryland's F units or Alco's ever got Chessie System paint. It would seem Chessie didn't have a lot of interest in Western Maryland's older locos as many were left in their WM paint and Run till serious failure or traded in for new GP40-2's (IE the additional 34 GP40-2's in my last post.) By the time of the CSX consolidation in 1986 only 75% of the Roster had received Chessie System Paint the remaining 25% were still sporting their Pre Chessie era paint. mgatdog As for Repainting your GP7's 9's why not just leave them as they are and patch a couple C&O's to WM. I remember reading somewhere that C&O transferred a large number of GP7/9's to WM in the early 70's. A few of these units were among those that were never repainted to Chesie colors and wore their Blue & yellow C&O paint with the C&O logo patched to WM right up to the end of the Chessie era. www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3590550 oh and The 12 SD40's were renumbered 7445-7449 to 7545-7549, 7470-7474 to 7570-7574, and 7495-7496 to 7595-7596
