Hi All,
I have been searching the web for a full-featured review of AZL's GP38-2 but have yet to locate one. I was wondering if anyone has any real-world experience with how many cars one GP38-2 can be expected to safely handle on level tangent track? The layout that I am designing (and amassing track for) will allow for the operation of 30+ car trains. In my current design, the ruling grade, will not come in to play until Phase-II, does not exceed 1.5%. My initial motive power roster will consist of GP38-2s and I was wondering if I should be considering 2 or 3. Thanks in advance.
Regards, Cliff

Cliff I am thinking you will me more than good with 2. I like to double head so it is natural. The traction tires on the 38s really up the pulling power. I don't think you will need a 3rd unit until you reach 50+ cars on the grade. Try out the 2. If you need a 3rd, pick it up later. We still have stock on all road names so I don't see a rush to order them right now.

Cliff, Rob, I've got 20 40' boxcar equivalents on a 2% grade at 5VDC throttle and a scale speed of 30MPH.Metal wheels on all trucks. Your mileage my vary. Does this help?
