Well Hello everyone , been busy on this adventure (Rail Beast) Finally Acquired SD70M-2 to do my adventure Dream for long time , discovered many things along way . Making copy of 2519 Union pacific as Rail beast. No going to go into the Politics of why it shouldn't have been done or who did it as Art work or just plain Graffiti . First off i do know lot about Painting large Steel things . I'm retired Union Steeple-Jack Painter , I've painted almost everything from one time to another , Nuclear Gen-rating Power stations -Bridges- USMC Runways -Water Tanks Cars -Trucks -Houses- Businesses. Shopping Centers- Barns- Chicken coups . So yes I can say I do know painting from inside out. As soon as I saw this Locomotive , I had to have copy of it in my collection. Gathering all facts I could on the Net. And asking right here on AZL for specifics of what others who know way more about Engines than I do . Helped greatly in my adventure. I thank you all first off . I did take pictures of some of the fundamental take down and separation of parts to paint. In the end lot has to be done by free hand. That is tough for some of Us with With Old father Arty setting in on the fingers. One thing I came to conclusion was whole Real Locomotive was repainted totally with much different color than what Union Pacific color. first challenge correct color or close as possible after dissembling it. From all photographs of it . It was repainted with color very close to Old Caterpillar Yellow\. My gosh went out o my shed and luckily I had some left over spry can from Friends Cat D-9 rebuild I helped paint back in the mid 80's. Yes not so politically correct stuff but color was right on. Jut little Pigment grained after years on shelf. But color was astounding close. Now comes hard part tried to copy Tiger Stripes in gloss Black , didn't have any semi-Gloss Black but Gloss was close enough. I was lucky to find all pictures of it on the Net and watched the live Video on the u-tube that the so called "Vandals" recorded doing the paint job. I contacted Seller on E-bay Circus City Decals about the face of Rail Beast he had made for N scale. He said even though he didn't have cab of SD70 he thought he could scale down to Z scale. He did perfect job . Only complaint i have is hard as heck to cut around Decal Eyes to put on Windshield , after several tries unsuccessful, i ended up painting them only i decided to make pupils red instead Black like original. Will I've took up lot more time than i expected , so just leave with pictures of what I've accomplished so far . Still ways to go but i'm getting there.
