Hans the new tariffs ,when they go in to effect . How bad do you think it will effect prices on AZL products? If price goes to high on any product from China. I think Sales will decline causing Chinese manufacturers to fold or work better prices to keep there co afloat? Or do you think model trains from China will go belly up?

They're not after *everything*, especially *not* "toys".

So far so good. Our imported trains are not affected by the new tariffs. Like everyone else we are following the developments around the "trade war" and hope it does not accelerate.

I just finished reading an analysis of the new tariffs, and here's what I got out of it.
One of the general categories for tariffs is "toys." However that is not specific enough to apply actual tariffs.
Over the next month or so, the administration will have to define specific product classes: toy trains, toy boats, Barbie® dolls. Also defining the scope of the tariffs: just China or including their economic zones of Hong Kong and Singapore.
There would then be a public comment period, about 30 days, for tariffs on the proposed items. Then the list will be finalized. Individual companies would then be able to request exemptions.
By this time, the general election would be over and a possible change of leadership in Congress could rein in or override the tariffs.
Manufacturers could accelerate the production and shipment of product from China before the implementation of tariffs, for a price.
Overall fellow modelers, start saving your pennies, or learn to love MTL and their F7s.

Mark, by chance did you also investigate the recent free trade agreement between EU and Japan? It would be great for all of us, European modellers, to get the amazing “made in Japan” stuff at the original prices :-D

I just heard about the EU-Japan trade pact this morning, and not a lot of details. The analysis I receive are generally a couple weeks in the making. I'll post if I learn more, especially if it has bearing on model railroading.

When examining the issue, we can't confine that analysis to finished products, like toy trains, but must also include the raw materials that go into making those items. Everything may be impacted, from metals to plastics, and the electronics that go in them. If there's something on your dream list & it's available now, buy it.

Trump's plan now is to tax all Chinese imports. Better get what you want now & hope Congress steps in.

How much would the customs increase the price ? I think not more than 25%, this would be less than 50 $ for a loco ! No reason to cry : the final price would be much under the current price for a ... brass loco ! And if I had not found HRT, the final price in France would have been : 1$ -> 1.20€
