How much would the customs increase the price ? I think not more than 25%, this would be less than 50 $ for a loco ! No reason to cry : the final price would be much under the current price for a ... brass loco ! And if I had not found HRT, the final price in France would have been : 1$ -> 1.20€
Alberich, the Z market is already small & expensive compared to other scales. Any price increase from trade tariffs will just discourage newcomers & cause manufacturers to scale back R&D and new releases. That in turn continues to discourage newbies & current model Railroaders alike. You can't compare an industry-wide price increase against a single brass locomotive.

One never knows the ultimate outcomes and additional unintended consequences of unplanned actions made for political theater. We'll have to see what changes transpire. I'll wager they will be profound. It should be interesting! For now, let's go run some trains...

Make it like Märklin : move Your production to eastern Europe (Hungary or Romania, as far as I know) ; or again to Korea ...

Neverland I agree some what to small & expensive z scale. The brass locomotives in z scale cost like some of the prices of plastic loco’s in O scale . That’s why I don’t even look at O scale stuff or buy it anymore. I could not tell you what a brass O scale loco cost you now . To scared to look.

Tariffs & now a shuttered business-- it's going to be painful. For eBay Z sellers it may be good news. 😏

Well just got an email from one of my RC hobby dealers .He can’t eat the tariffs anymore. As of Oct 1 a 10 to 25% in crease on controls and servo’s for start. So a RC control that’s $150.00 is going to run you $15 to $37.50 more. Hobbies are going to slowly disappear I’m afraid.

A RC system is not a good example ; yes, I must admit, for many years they were really cheap ; but I remember that, when I began with RC-modelling (my first boat 1969), the total cost for a RC-system, 4 channels and 4 servos (Robbe-Futaba DP4, I bought it with only 2 servos from my savings during a "long" time) was in France about a (beginner) teachers month's salary. And despite of this fact, RC-hobby was growing. In the future, the RC hobby will perhaps become again that what it was in the past, a hobby for really motivated modellers, and not a domain of toys for children with their readymade speed boats, frame buggies and drones ; and if they have one they will perhaps take more care of it than in the present days ! And maybe that some people (especially youngsters ) won't request a new smartphone every year : compare the prices with those of RC systems ; for a smartphone people find it normal to spend over 500 ~ 600 $ ; by the way, I heard (I don't know if it's true) that the phone with the Apple was manufactured in China, too ... LOL !
