Thanks for that. We completely agree! ....You say things much better than I can say them. Anyway, Thanks. Well, I share the same frustration that others have with the lack of B units. If we want to model prototypical correct, we need lots of B units. Unfortunately, I fear that we may have to eventually abandon modeling the prototypical ABB consist and just go with AB since that is the only way AZL is selling them. That is IF AZL even offers a B unit for a lot of railroads. Look at this presale page for Needtrains www.needtrains.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=48_19_6&products_id=18304It's for the CZ DRGW. Some of us were looking forward to the CZ, but these units are only sold as AB. As I recall, the CZ was almost always ABB. So once again, we are forced to buy TWO sets to get the correct ABB and have a extra A unit which is very expensive. Or just go with AB and not be prototypical correct. Hopefully, this is only Needtrains page and AZL will offer more B units for sale. Also some railroad consists ran E7 ABB. And we don't have ANY of those (except in ultra expensive brass). You might try to substitute an E8 or 9 but that wouldn't be prototypical correct either. Plus, you'd still have the B unit problem. I'm not going to stop supporting AZL - I like their stuff. But we have to realize the limitations that we have to work with here.

I suppose most of us will be voting with our feet. I've loved AZL Stuff too. In 2003 it was neat to have fairly good detail in a scale smaller than N. kind of exclusive even. Now N has so much more and the detail improvement is crazy good. Spent an hour on the Scaletrains.com website last night. Really advanced... All my friends do N scale (yep, both of them). They have played with some great stuff that I can't join in with them. Anyway, this is the wrong forum for this. However passenger trains are the reason I'm here. Thanks and know that I am just as torn.

Down the road we will most likely do the E7s since the E8 chassis will be a carryover. A lot of E8 and E7 combinations when you look at railroads that used both.

With all the discussion of E units here, I decided to refresh my knowledge on them and have a couple of interesting facts to share.
E7
Units built A 428 B 82
Purchased by 32 railroads
Bangor & Aroostook - #700, #701 were re-geared for freight service
St. Louis & San Francisco - Did a cosmetic rebuild of #2000-2005 to look like E8s
Southern Pacific - The only railroad to own more B units than A. These B units were also used with PAs, the E8A and E9s
Two A-B-B sets jointly owned for UP/SP/C&NW City service. Built to UP specifications.
E8
Units built A 421 (460) B 39 (46) Numbers in parenthesis count earlier model E units returned to EMD for upgrade to E8
Purchased by 39 railroads
Erie Lackawanna units were re-geared for freight 1970. At least 3 of these units went to Conrail, one unit to NS
Southern Pacific owned only one E8 (6018) not modeled in the current AZL production run.
Quite a variety, particularly if you add in the repaints from various roads like SP.

I have the original AZL SEABOARD E-7 A-B set (both units powered)... with an additional B unit (also powered). The set is available for sale.

That's really great news. But please also think about selling more B units so we can start doing ABB - for both E7 and E8-9.

If there is only one remaining, it's a *fine* Pennsy example!
