Help ...
I found and bought a new AZL GP30 NYC on eBay ... it looks fine, needed only some "corrections" at the PCB (ferrite coils and contact tabs to the motor) and the handrails at the front. Unfortunately the rear coupler is "bent down" and it seems impossible to reset it in place ( " pulling it away " from the truck), the lower level is at the high level of the tracks (this will among other issues, i.e. random uncoupling, cause problems with the turnouts) and the problem seems to be between the truck and the bottom plate (near the two little holes ... ) I tried to file it a little, without any success, and to bend the coupler upwards (!) to avoid uncoupling. I think that things would be easier if I could first unmount it from the chassis : but, how can I do ? And, then, how can I unmount the "bottom plate" with the coupler ? Or should I replace the whole truck ? I saw it exists as a spare part on AZL direct, so I could order it at my local dealer. Another solution : since the front coupler will never be used, swap both trucks (possible ? ), cut the defective coupler (now in front) away and install the "pilot".
Thanks for any answer !

You are looking at a truck replacement if the coupler is bent down. I like the idea of cutting off the coupler and installing the pilot. This is really a great option. But if you do want a working coupler, then go for the truck replacement. Once the coupler gets disfigured, it is next impossible to fix.

If you are quite sure you'll never need the front coupler, swapping it out is the most cost effective solution.

Thanks for Your answers, but meanwhile I succeeded in removing and dis-assembling (and re-assembling again, including the lateral wipers ) the whole truck ; there was "something" with the moulding which pushed the "base plate" down, near the "two small holes" ; a little bit of "scratching" with a cutter on the upperside of the plate solved the problem, the coupler is higher ... And now the loco will get a SERIOUS break in, it needs it, especially the motor : it starts sometimes slowly and then reaches its normal speed, I think the brushes and the collector need the break in. After all, maintenance of a Z-loco is not more difficult than for my former N-models ...

About your aft truck coupler issue, why not simply cutting truck's coupler arm and trying to use a pilot, made for GP7/9 but could be working on a GP30 with some filing / trimming / glueing, etc ?... www.azldirect.com/parts/62000-905You could even consider using a MTL magnematic coupler on it, instead of non-magnetic AZL coupler... My two cents, Dom
