Can anyone help me with z scale switches

If they are older versions, the guard rail (closet to the Stock, a.k.a Outer rail) is a bit close.

First:
Which way are you running:
Into the points (exiting the straight or divergent route)
From the divergent or straight through the points
What is derailing?
Loco (one, more than one)
Freight (40', 50' 89')
Body or truck mount coupler?
Back to back turnouts (Left hand to right hand)
On a grade or flat?
Turnout on the same plane as the track?

Try rolling a Micro-Trains freight car through. Watch (eyes at track level and close). Feel it as it goes over all of the parts.
Try rolling a märklin and/or AZL freight car.
Watch your various locos slowly run through it.

No simple answer without some details.
