I see AZL once had an SD40-2. Is there a chance that they will retool it and offer it again?

I think you are thinking of Micro-Trains doing the SD40-2. I read in a thread where they are re-doing them.

The brass model is made by photo etched brass sheets, cast brass, and hand built one model at a time. The tooling for an injection mold is much more complex than just making a cast of a previously made model.

Yeah, if AZl could do what they did with the SD45, and make an SD40-2, we'd all buy them!!

The AZL brass SD40-2s are a rare bread. I have not seen one pass through our Resale shop in the last six year. For those lucky enough to own AZL's early brass diesels, the prices for these are going like crazy on the 2nd hand market. We typically sell SD45 for $875 plus. The C44s are known to go much higher.

Rob To say nothing of Alco PA1&PB1! They pop-up once in a while, at absurdly high prices

I think you are thinking of Micro-Trains doing the SD40-2. I read in a thread where they are re-doing them. No, I have 3 of them, 4 if you count the one that Gerd used to fabricate my U30C. But the wide hood just stands out too much against the narrower hoods of my other locos. I'd love to have a few for coal service on my layout. I have plenty of modern power, but like to run some trains in an 1980's BN theme when the SD40-2 was still king. A longer frame and new shell is all we need.
