That is exactly what I have in mind, Mark, And may be now and then he has to stop even at Niles !! Best, Sven PS: Isn't the green-orange paint scheme more for 1970s? Yes the green and orange scheme was the more common paint in the 1970s. But WP was never very concerned about the paint, so it was not uncommon to see a train being lead by locos with 3 different paint schemes (silver-orange, all orange and green-orange). www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=390788 The clues for the U-boats are the road number and font. This unit would have been #761 in it's younger years and the "Western Pacific" would have been in the Zephyr Deco font. Mark, i don't recognize the car with a black dome. Do you know what kind of car is it. Now you've done it! I need to know what that car is! Playing with the image, it looks like a transition car with a black roof, but this train wouldn't need one. A Lounge/parlor chair would make more sense. Mark

The U30B (silver-orange) is modeled as of 1973, the U30C (green-orange) as of 1981

In May 2015 Karl and I did a photo shooting on one of his actual layouts. One part of the layout looked like a perfect copy of "Niles Canyon" in California and we placed in consequence a lot of AZL's top rolling stock on it. For more details of this layout, please go to Karl Sinn's web page; www.spur-z-atelier.de/referenzen/anlage-mueschbach/Many follower's of this thread here liked the pictures by Karl about the trains in Niles Canyon so much, that Rob surprised us with a very nice article in his Ztrack Magazine. Thank you! Enjoy the reading! Best, Sven

Sven, If you haven't seen it, try the SP film "This is My Railroad":
It has diesel, steam, LW & HW passenger, MOW.

Great video, Mark. It truly gives a sense of wonder and awe at the workings of railroads in the 40's and the people who worked them. Almost makes you wonder how different things are today with modern electronics and technology to keep today's railroads running. Thanks for sharing this truly amazing video. Oh yeah. And the trains themselves looked great in the video. Seeing F units, E units, cab forwards, etc all doing what they do best.

Glad you liked the film. If you do a quick search, you'll find a number of these SP promotional videos, including a 1950s version of this video, a diesels video and a piggyback video. I'm fond of this video as I remember seeing it in my third-grade class.
I was actually looking for a home movie of a Daylight trip to San Francisco that is also in the Prelinger archive...somewhere.

One of my favourite pictures is this one here: www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1928682A lot of the rolling stock was delivered by AZL so far, but the two diesels...... One of them could be realized in Z already, the SD44R will be a little more tricky SP 7342 a little bit closer..... Best, Sven PS: SP 7399 can be done on the basis of AZL's SD45. Will show proof later

Nice paint scheme, but not the correct model, that's a SD40-2; SP7342 was a refurbished SD40, better called SD40R which is significant shorter
