Finally, I succeeded in logging in on Nextion and got the answer : the panel is made of glass, but there is a frame made of polycarbonate. So I must first test with a glass cleaner if the plastic does not get damaged. But this does not explain the strange issues I had. Fortunately I had not yet thrown away my display !

Seems we (you) are in a vicious circle.
If your solution works and the only hang up is the look of the buttons from an era perspective, surely that is STILL better than the touch panel which you seem to repeatedly be dismissing.
Sometimes function over form just has to be the way. Your Button B works but isn't as pretty, Button A is pretty but doesn't work, and Touchpanel C is something you will never feel good about, even if you do eventually get it to work. Is that about the sum of it?

No, despite of the fact that it is not conform with the era, the touch panel would be the best "ergonomic" solution. My initial problem with it was that I tried to display too many colours and graphics, and they could not be seen clearly under some angles. You must consider that I am looking at the display in an angle between 35 and 45 degrees. Now I have only "basic" colours, white, black, red, green and blue and it seems that they are displayed correctly.

Bye Nextion ... I tried to play WAV data (this will be necessary for feedback if I use the speech control) and nothing came out ! The system behaved as if the data would be played normally and confirmed via serial the end of playing, but nothing could be heard. I think there is a hardware issue, or is it related with file format, or am I doing something wrong ? All the way I am unable to solve it. I don't wannna use, even partially, a device which is perhaps defective. So I will use further the Adafruit player and switch controls. Beside this, the display gets dirty very quickly and looks scruffy, so it would be necessary to clean very often ...
