Dave, I have a photo reference that the Glen Tarsan was on the Limited (at least once). If we trust the Coach Yard research I posted above, you can add the LA the SF and De Wolf.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the kind words on the research. It really was a labor of love, that quite frankly turned into just plain old labor! As you can tell, TONS of research went into the heavyweights. Fred Hill runs the Coachyard, and he is the master of all things passenger car, so I don't assume to have even 5% of his knowledge, but never the less it was fun to look up all this stuff. It really helps take my mind back to the period of time when fleets of heavyweight Pullmans crisscrossed America. From the smallest of towns to the largest of cities, the Pullman porter greeted thousands of well dressed passengers every night. Steam ruled the day, and I can almost hear the locomotive sounds mixed in with the distinctive triple rumble of Heavyweight trucks plowing over track joiners.
Anyway, there are more releases to come including several more "name" trains. I'll endeavor to produce similar material for those too.
Best, -Robert(A) AZL

Rob, I'm trying to do this from memory since my passenger train consist database is at home. What I was trying to say a dormitory combine car. All the long the long distance trains had some sort of crew dormitory. As I recall the modeled diner plan didn't have the dormitory. So I was thinking of a mail/dormitory or PO/dormitory. Not a big deal, not like someone who produced streamline sleepers with no place for those passengers to eat. Mark, I gave this some thought. It was not unheard of for the railroads to use a 12-1 at the head end of the train for crew dormitory use. While I agree a combine car would be fantastic (as would about half a dozen other cars I can think of) I think the utility and correctness of a 12-1 might make it an acceptable substitute. Best, -Robert

Robert, Yeah I agree a 12-1 is an acceptable substitute, Although as I recall, some of the windows are patched like this; shastaroute.railfan.net/Photos/MofWay/SPMW_7118_c.jpgEver though about selling an outrageously priced bottle of touch-up paint? Regardless, you've put together such a good selection of heavyweights, I think I can bash one with a baggage & paired window chair cars if I really want one and have the courage to cut up a couple of cars. Happy 4th of July!
So I took a little time away from the 4th activities to do a completely unscientific test of what locos can pull the Sunset Set. In my collection, I have a single brass AZL SP E8 and a brass GS3 in the Daylight livery. I have not run these locos in years. I would not even call them broken in. When I put them on the track, both took off which was a good sign!
I test ran the locos and cars on the Ztrack office modules. The track work definitely needs some adjustment, but they are usable. The maximum radius is 220mm. I tested the E8 first. There was definitely some slipping, especially on one of the ballon modules. But overall, it did okay. I think some of the slipping was due to the track. I really wish I had a 2nd E8 A or B so I could run the train double headed. This would be perfect. I think a broken in E8 with excellent track work or broader curves would do fine. A double headed pair would have been perfect on my modules.
The GS3 faired much better. The only slipping was on the one ballon module were the E8 had issues. I suspect the track may be out of gauge slightly in that area. There was some staggering to the train, but not so much slipping. I really think this was the loco that needed a good break-in. Once it breaks in, I think the running will smooth out. The GS3 looked incredible pulling these cars!
My next step is lube the gears slightly on these two locos and allow them to break-in properly then test again. But in my opinion, hands down, the GS3 is what is going to be pulling this train!
Hans had sent me a photo showing a pair of PA1s in the Daylight scheme pulling the Sunset. I did not test a PA1 on the train, but I suspect it may act more like the E8. Again a pair would likely be perfect and match prototype photos.
Okay back to the 4th of July fun...

Rob... I think you are slightly mistaken. Running trains IS the 4th of July fun!

Well, I've got some time to play with my trains so I pulled out my test track and cleaned it up. While not prototypically correct for the Sunset, the new GP9 that arrived today will pull 10 HW cars nicely at a scale 45MPH and 25MPH.
I'll post additional results as I complete them.
Pulling out the books, in the cases when a railroad (WP/UP/SP/ATSF) was running HW trains of 10-16 cars with diesel they usually used 3 power units.
So if the GS unit works, does that mean AZL will be producing more? If so, I want one in WP paint.

I got a Mikado, WP313, out after dinner and gave it a try. This engine will pull a 10 car HW train with considerable effort. Power consumption is about 4 times the unloaded current at 55mA. Unlike the GP9, the engine does not like pulling the train through a 180 degree 220mm curve: visible vibration of the engine through the curve. There is definite slipping on start up and rapid acceleration and deceleration. More study is needed,, but this looks like a viable locomotive for a flat layout.
I guess I don't really need the GS unit, but if AZL is making more, think WP481-486.

To big of a load for this month. I just spent $$$$ on 16 SP heavyweights and the 10 pack. Dang it I will sell the 5 cars lettered Pullman in the SP set due to I already have 3 of each pullman type from the original runs.
I had to sell my micro trains cars and engines to help pay for this. Now I don't have any engines left. But I will pick up 2 AZL CB&Q mikados soon. I think the only MTL items I will keep is the track. Only because no one else makes USA tie Spacing on their tracks.

Do all the cars in the 10 car SP set number 70004-1 say Southern Pacific on them? or do the Sleepers say Pullman on them?

Here is the listing from the set. Those that are listed as Pullman are indeed labeled Pullman. Those listed as Southern Pacific Line are lettered accordingly. All sleepers are lettered for Pullman as is the observation car.

I wish there was pics of all the cars in that set.
I should have mine in a week or so. Can't wait.

Is it safe to assume that ATSF SD75i is the July Part 2 release since #208 and #211 grace the back cover of the latest ZTrack magazine? If so can you tell me what other road numbers are going to be released? I have CB&Q GP-7 #208 and that will conflict with ATSF #208 if programmed in DCC.

Is fhere a reference to a typical consist? The observation car is not at the end of the listed cars and the box is packed randomly.
