...I removed the dynamics, and otherwise modified the 35 to resemble a DT&I engine. Posted is a pic of it against part of the N fleet. I have other AZL engines awaiting conversion...It seems you share some of my other hobby interest. Joe It looks like a very nice loco Joe. I dabbled a little bit in N Scale a few years ago but gave it up when I was introduced to Z Scale by a friend. I really just like building things, so modding these locos are right up my alley😁 Great job on the upgrades. Send photos of the completed unit. Will you be attempting the GP 38-2 1776? That was the first unit that came to mind when doing the mods. The paint will be a little tricky on these locos as they do not break apart like the newer ones do. It'll take a lot of patience and careful masking to prevent bleed through. I've got to to it because I'm a Bicentennial Baby...born in 1976😎. Only time will tell if it comes out as planned. Right now working on #200, the very first production GP38. I've already plugged the headlights and relocated them to the nose and added a nose bell recess on the engineer's side of the short hood. I'm not convinced with the molded in dynamic brake blisters since they are really modeled after a -2 Type and not a strait GP38. I'm attempting to build my own. The DT&I wasn't a fan of them and removed them later on towards the late 70's/early 80's. I might just go with the later version with the -2 style upper long hood section sans blisters, and original front air filter cover. Thanks! Jimmy

Thanks for the compliment. I have sanded dynamics off of too many engines. You posted where you grew up in a previous post. I would say I was raised within 25 miles of you. Hence my love for the DT&I. Are you aware there is a DT&I modelers meet in Springfield the 20th of this month? When I made my previous post,I laughed as I am a "New Member". I guess I should post more often! Joe

One thing I've noticed in adulthood is that no matter where I am in the world, I tend to run into a fellow Buckeye!🤣 I was shooting for a weekend update, better now than later. My dynamic brake attempts ended in disaster, so I went to my backup plan. #200 will now be #6200. It fits into my timeframe and will be a non orange locos. The other two are a GP38AC and GP38-2. Those two road numbers are TBD. Dynamic brake blisters shaved, each one got a nose job, with #6200 having headlights relocated to the short hood nose, added sanding filler caps to front and rear, gave the bottom of the headlight fairings a rounded bottom with 1/2 round styrene, brake lever detail, made new air filter housings and covers, added cab antennas and added spark arrestors.

I looked back to see that my first post was about the release of the RSD 3/5. I have been a "lurker" for years also it seems. Keep up the great work!

Progress, but not the outcome I was hoping for. My OCD got the best of me and I ended up destroying 3 GP38 shells. I was able to salvage one and converted it to a GP40-2. So 2 GP9's and 1 now GP40-2 are wearing DT&I Orange. I tried a different color this time. Vallejo Red Orange. I feel that it looks a little bit better and closer to reference photo color than the SP Daylight Orange that I sprayed my GP7's with. I'm gonna let the paint cure overnight before masking and spraying the black parts.
