Geeps! Yes! I’ve been waiting for this — GP7s are the main loco I want to populate my dream layout. Now hoping for bogo AAR 40 footers to buy out the entire stock…

Happy New Year everyone! Well we have completed our 6 weeks of Friday special madness. The remaining specials will be online until Friday January 6th, then they will be taken down. This is your last chance to take advantage of our poor judgement... I mean... love for the hobby! All remaining specials are online at Ztrack Center: www.ztrackcenter.comRob

But no UP GP7s yet? Probably for the best; I think I have a problem.

Yup... no UP GP7s. We are holding those back for our starter sets. The UP GP7 set has been the most popular one we offer.

Got my MoPac GP7's (decorated as GP9's) and have already started defacing them. They will be grain elevator or shortline power and will eventually get a chopped nose. But for now, I just wanted to see if I could remove the MoPac insignia, and they'll make good standins for now.

I can’t tell if you’re serious or just busting my chops.

I'd like to know also. I took advantage of the BOGO GP7 offer and picked up two Pennsy's to convert into ARR. In an attempt to remove the decals I removed alot of paint also...What's your technique?
Feel free to direct me to another post if you've already answered this.

Here is one of a few posts I've made on the subject, with a YouTube video that shows the process. azlforum.com/thread/2223/bnsf-sw1500sOne caveat. I have tried this once before on the GP7's, specifically the C&O that were offered several years back on Black Friday. I was UNABLE to remove the lettering on those locos. I don't recall the specifics, but I was trying to remove the lettering only so that I would have a good blue base for an ATSF GP7u. I couldn't get that accomplished, although I don't think I spent a ton of time on it so it *could* be possible with the right combination of timing and chemicals. One mod of the process is to use camp fuel instead of Micro-Sol, for particularly tough lettering. (Micro-Trains unofficially recommends using camp fuel for their products) All of this is of course "proceed with caution/at your own risk". So, frankly I was surprised that the MoPac logo came off so easily. I'm not sure about the Pennsy's, as I've not purchased any or tried to remove the lettering. I was actually considering it since I still need a couple of units with dynamics and I think those are the only ones left. But cash flow issues are preventing that.

Micro-sol has worked for me in the past.
Locos are painted with paint ...and lettering is generally pad printed with ink!
Sometimes, shields, logos etc are decal...
Good to know what works on which ...and what isn't going to affect the other.
