I think a preorder system will create quite a workload for us. Also, if we announce 6 months out there are no guarantee that we can adjust production volumes. And we see frequent production delays which will clearly push the patience for many. But we will do a better job when ordering and increase numbers. When we clearly fail, we will do an immediate rerun (within a year). Hopefully this will help. (Maybe to late to adjust the ES44AC and SD70ACe rerun, but no problem with the SD40-2 second run)

Oy vey, have I got reading up to do. … I thought cabooses existed only in my childhood.
My great uncle-in-law was a conductor on the B&O. A recipe was passed down for a caboose supper. Essentially, it’s country fried potatoes with eggs added. The men carried eggs aboard the caboose I used to hear.
There’s lottsa great articles online about how cabooses were such a sight for people waiting in cars, and the role cabooses had in a pre-technocratic America.
Fire fighting command central. And AZLer Milwaukee Road showed pictures of wide visions he had in his phone from his neck of the woods. Gee whiz.

Funny. MTL's move to a pre-order system for Z was panned universally and yet it works out great for dealers (although, I must make my own estimate of what I will sell as nobody pre-orders). Only getting enough for orders and things are selling out faster than ever before. <snip> people don't usually pre-order in Z! Having the variety available, even if stock stagnates, is awesome ... AZL only missed on the R70-20's and a couple of other items. But they were spot on or over-produced, I'd say about 98% of the time. We're all complaining about a small portion that proves to be very popular and now Mr. A is agreeing to produce more. Problem solved. MTL's system isn't pre-ordering a specific item. It is using Intermountain's failed system of throwing out a 6-8 roadnames and then only producing what gets enough preorders. Not only are you correct that people generally don't reserve items, this system "splits the votes" so that nothing ever gets done. What I'm talking about is basically an order guarantee whereby I get a "confirmation number" (associated with the dealer of my choice) like with a hotel reservation. As long as I can pay when the item arrives, I"m guaranteed to get it. I'm not suggesting that AZL alters their production at all. (they could, though, armed with this info)

But then I model the Alaska RR which used cabooses longer than most. ARR rail fans, can you give us an update? I don't know if John's site is up to date.
