In another thread I wrote about the Outland silos and finally said that they were not enough detailed (and I think they are too small, too). Now I found this on eBay ; the set comes with two "silver" silos. If I remove (by milling) the company's name (because it is Canadian) and replace with a "fantasy" name, like "Centerville Grain Corp." , would this be suitable for my layout (era ? I build 1965). And shouldn't I add a (scratch built) structure as shown on this picture, a catwalk (probably with a conveyor belt) from the main building to the metallic silos ?

I don't remember seeing that type of grain building in Southern New England. They were / are cylindrical silos with office. Sometimes a freight house or loading dock for bagged material. One in SE Connecticut also had a S-4 switcher. That is until our museum bought the S-4. Lots of catwalks, tho. Maybe exceptions I don't know about in Massachusetts.
Providence R.I. had a massive coal facility with concrete cylindrical silos until 20 years ago.
Hope that helps. Ed

My conclusion : "When in doubt, abstain" ; above all, the model isn't really cheap when I include the shipment (and probably an additional tax for France).

Alberich, This one is in Yorkville, VA., on the coast. Seems a little more modern. Scott Attachments:

Thanks CNE1899 ; the building in Adams is almost ruined (would be good for the steam era), the version in Yorkville, despite of the fact that it's in Virginia (but it is near MA) seems better. A strange fact is that this one looks almost like the (canadian) Model on eBay ! The only differences are the structure of the silos, not so "smooth" as the model (but those of the model are polygonal) and the "non-conical" tops ; I think I can live with it, or add some lines with a thin marker or printed transparent decals ; on the other side I don't know if such completely smooth silos already existed in 1965 or not, but I think that neither my visitors know it (I live in France) ; they will only notice that it looks "pretty american" . And all the way I will add the catwalk !

To 3railgreg : So, finally the nearest would be the "main" building, alone, without the "silver" silos ? And use the same "tunnel" both for loading and unloading trucks (I don't have a railway dead end track available). I could try to contact the seller (who is probably the manufacturer, too) to ask if I can get the building alone ...

Maybe I can't mill this model. So I would have to keep the "Paterson" logo : who knows (in France) that it's a Canadian society ? And on the other side some Canadian firms could have subsidiaries in the USA (compare with the "border crossing" traffic of Canadian railway companies, and the merger announced on the forum). At the backside I would add sliding doors, a roof and a loading dock, like at the prototype in St. Johnsbury ...
Or I could use an industrial complex instead (to "fill" the space left by my former freight depot) : Kibri, still available at some dealers and at the factory ; and I would paint all blue parts gray, black for the "catwalk", put "Gulf" decals on the tanks and the provided trucks (they are molded in orange, so this is OK ! ).

A very bad joke ... Sorry, but I asked the seller almost 60 hours ago if the "elevator" itself could be purchased separately (the silos are available ! ) and I didn't yet get an answer ! So I "googled" a little bit and now look at this : it's the same ! I downloaded the files, uploaded them on Shapeways and resized (72.73% from N to Z) ... and was stunned : the printing costs "only" from 130 € upwards. Now I found an online printing service (Abeille 3D, in France ! ) where the model would cost about 31€ (no shipment fees necessary ! ), but printed in FDM "hires" (0.1 mm layers) and white, there is a rather big choice of colours ; the model on eBay has 0.2 mm layers and is only brown. And so finally I ordered it !

And here comes the finished silo ...
The most difficult was the spout !

The spout is a 2.5 mm in diameter brass rod, the support was 3D printed in brass, assembly with super glue ; the parts were sprayed gray with Tamiya primer ; the loading plattform was 3D printed, too. Drilling the oblique hole to fix the spout into the wall was a rather "kamikaze" operation ...
