Question for those more knowledgeable of ATSF: What is the thing on the front of this loco, near the horns? Don't see it on the traditional warbonnets ...

Despite of the fact that I am not interested in buying such a (I must admit, beautiful) model since I model Massachusetts with NYC and NH, I googled a little and found this picture of a prototype ... with another "thing" near the horns ! And my ABSOLUTELY NOT ( ) beloved ChatGPT wrote : "The ATSF PA1 Gold was a special version of the PA-1 locomotive, with a distinctive gold paint scheme that was used to pull the Santa Fe's flagship passenger trains, such as the Super Chief and El Capitan. The gold color was achieved by mixing bronze powder with the standard Santa Fe red and silver colors. The ATSF PA1 Gold was powered by two EMD 16-567B diesel engines, which together produced 2,000 horsepower. It had a top speed of 100 miles per hour and was equipped with advanced features such as air conditioning and a steam generator for heating passenger cars." Maybe the explanation is in the second paragraph ? Some people would call these engines "tuned locomotives" ...

That's where the brakeman sits when the train travels through dense fog.

The port hole on the rear of the locomotive is probably where the john, micro-wave, kitchen sink and refrigerator are located!!
