Just a note to our vintage GP38-2. Not sure if you know, but we have changed almost every tooling part of it since the original RLW version. And even with improvements it may soon be headed into retirement. We thought like many of you it would be a good platform for a GP40 or GP40-2, but it is not to our current standards of locomotive design. Maybe we will do a final farewell run of the GP38-2 next year to round it up. We could probably write a 200 page book about our GP38-2. While the body shell tooling is dated you could use the chassis for other Geeps. Also, since one of the principals of AZL is an SP fan why not a GP35 using bits from the GP30? There’s so much focus on 6 axle power (in all scales), those of us who prefer 4 axle diesels are left hanging. Im working on my own designs for some, but would welcome something mass produced. While I am almost done with the GP60 I still prefer to see AZL produce one. Having said that, I am uber excited about the SD40-2.

I know that I may stick in a Wasp Nest, but an RS/RSD 11/12/15.. or any sibling would one day be a great addition.. they were spread ftom Mexico to Canada. BR Boris

Compared to the GP40-2, the GP35 was used by more railroads and in more paint schemes. For reference, the MTL GP35 body is a near perfect fit on the AZL GP30 chassis. Mark

I will be sad to see the GP38-2 get retired, but I understand why. But isn't the chassis design satisfactory? They run very well. As others have mentioned a GP40 and/or GP40-2 would be a great addition. Many paint schemes are available. As someone who works in R&D for Atlas I can tell you we've gotten a lot of mileage out of our various Geeps. Sure, the newer models seem to get all of the attention (Gevo, ACe, etc), but there is still a very viable market for more Geeps in Z.
Tagging on to that, I'd love to see a GP35. The MTL version is not up to today's standards. Considering that one of the principles of AZL is an SP fan I'm surprised it hasn't been done yet, it's a signature SP loco.
None of the above is meant as complaints, just a bit of a wish list as a long time fan of AZL.
