That's another good reason for me to move on. I believe I speak for everyone here when I say that we all hope you decide to stay. Your contributions to the forum have been very helpful, engaging, and most welcome over many years. It would be a shame to lose you especially given the number of new projects that we have underway - several of which you have influenced, perhaps without your awareness. All the best -Rob(A) AZL

I think we all get frustrated. Often. No scale is without it's challenges. But look how far Z has come just in the last few years (mostly thanks to AZL and a few independents). OK, here comes the old timer speech about walking backwards in the snow to school. I've been in Z scale for 35 years (I'm sure there are others that have been in longer). There was no AZL back then. All we had was what Marklin and Micro-trains had. No second generation U.S. Diesels. We only had covered wagons and a long hood locomotive was a pipe dream. Sure there are many locos and rolling stock items that I would like to see (and not have to scratch build), we just have to be patient. I'd love to see some U-boats and others. I almost peed my pants when I saw the latest announcement about spine cars and triple 53' well cars. I certainly can wait for the bugs to be worked out on the SD40-2s. It'll give me time to save up after I invest in the afore mentioned. Let's be kind and patient with one another.

I concur with Rob and Highhoods, stay the course. I have only been in this hobby for almost 4 years and can't believe all of the progress it has made. I started off with Marklin because that is what some else had given me as a small layout. I started to explore and found AZL and Micro Trains. I weened myself from Marklin because I like the American style couplers and equipment. AZL offers the best locomotives I have experienced as far as operations and their customer service is great. I also enjoy the selection of Road brands even though there are none available in my favorite (CNJ). Hang in there and enjoy what is available. Z scale is a great adventure!

I'd rather wait for for a well engineered model in the price range of an SD40-2 or SD40T-2. Don't forget, there have been regular updates from the Manufacturer ( unlike for an another HOn3 steamer thats has been announced for years with no real uodates that will cost twice as much).
Not to forget that you rarely see any updates from big manufacturers at all.
So yeah I'll buy an SD40-2 in CP Multimark and heck yes a Rio Grande Tunnel motor( or 2?). My 2 C Have fun 👍🏼 Boris

Any update on this topic? Spring is just around the corner. And our new ColoradoZ group is exhibiting at the Rocky Mountain Train Show on the first of April. Maybe Hans can fly out with a prototype in his carry-on bag.

Not going to make Colorado this April. Maybe in May, but that is uncertain. Anyway, we are waiting for some engineering changes on the SD40-2s and SD40T-2. Nothing serious other than we had to move back to truck mounted couplers. Was really hoping the pilot mounted couplers would work, but endless derailments of freight cars changed our mind

We also welcome the truck mounted couplers. They don’t look as good as the pilot mounted ones, but for us who like to run trains, they work better. Gary

I hope you offer a pilot/plow option to pop in like you have on past releases. Just more work for us on our end.

Trust me, we would not change if we did not have to. So back to the different trucks. Thinking of factory installing pilot with dummy coupler up front and truck mounted coupler to the rear. Will supply extra truck with truck mounted coupler with the locomotives.

That would work especially if someone wants to use the locomotive for yard work! Happy Thursday!

Factory mounted Pilot is OK if, as you mention, the spare truck+coupler for lash ups (elephant style).
