Hello! I've been lurking on these boards for awhile, enough to get me to try some AZL Loco's (I've had Marklin for years) and I'm sure happy I did. I've been talking with Jim Hinds at Richmond Controls, who has been talking me through adding some lighting to my pair of SD45's and we've come up with a question-
The AZL SD45 has a couple of 1/4 watt 39 ohm resistors on the underside of the lighting circuit board, back under the rear LED. Each LED has its own 2.2K surface mount resistor for current limiting. Does anyone you what function is served by these two 39 ohm resistors?
Thanks all!~

Thanks all!~ If memory serves me correctly, those are Radio Frequency suppression coils - not resistors. Manufactures need to include them to make sure the radio "noise" made by the motor does not interfere with real radio frequency devices pre FCC and EU regulations. As the end consumer, you have the prerogative to modify your property as you see fit.

Correct. Inductors (a.k.a. 'Choke'). They will have negligible resistance and near worthless with these motor types (but required on some 'electronic' devices for US Imports (F.C.C. rules)
You can cut them out and jumper the pads, for more space.

Ok, great thanks for the info! Sounds like I’ll have plenty of room for a Disco ball in there, but perhaps it might interfere with a radio telescope if I ever pick one up. Thanks again, I hope to share images soon!

Back in the dark old days of modelrailroading with arcing brushes those helped to kill the " buzz".. nowadays you could technically remove them even ion models with standard motors. ( I have never seen them in Athearn Bluebox engine anyway).. Cut em out and install your Disco Ball and Laserbeams👍🏼☺️ BR Boris
