Hi What kind of MTL couplers can I use to convert an AZL GP7/9? I'd like to do some simple switching on a future layout. BR Boris

You need the MTL 905 (part number 002-02-021 0. It is not a drop-in. Most cut off the existing coupler from the truck. You will need to shave a few areas and, locate where you need to drill the hole up into the shell frame. If you try to couple on a curve, the loco will not align with the freight truck mounted coupler as it will be following the centerline of the track. Unless you are switching MTL freight, you won't be able to couple to the AZL freight. If you don't alreading have the Rokuhan or MTL Uncoupler track ( or the big 'N' MTL magnet), you can make your own with the process I made (was in the March-April 2020 Ztrack Magazine). Since the cars for switchting are entirely MTL.. compatibility is not an issue.. and manually I can still couple with AZL cars.. BR Boris

If you need a manual uncoupler for problems, find one of the “coffee stir” plastic sticks (typically red) and slice on end at a 45° angle (or sharper). This will make like a shovel. You will need to get it sharper so I use ‘nail files’ (beauty section of any store) rated 1000 or so. Mainly just to get the burr off the tip. There are small round ones but near impossible to find.
Just press down between the couplers and they will pop open.

Gotta get the Geep decaled and weathered first☺️👍🏼 BR Boris
