Normally we don’t encourage things on this forum that are not model train related. But given that Alex in Kyiv was working on a DCC decoder for the SW switcher, I think there is more than enough of a connection that we should let this thread keep going. If you want to read more, this is a rather good piece on the subject: www.politico.eu/article/ukraine-war-russia-vladimir-putin-miscalculation/

I think this story is as railroad related as the wildfire in Talent OR. the article is a good reference but we need to be careful the thread doesn’t become political. That said and being a knowledgeable on Russian history, the world, and in particular the U.S, have underestimated Russia, just as Hitler did, as Napoleon did.

Keeping Alexey in my thoughts. I hope that he and family remain safe. He´s on his way to the Polish border with his kids. But it takes a lot of time as many try to do so. Here in Germany, Holger Späing of trainini magazine and Jörg Erkl from HRT organize and coordinate the help that will start when they are in Poland and then, finally in Germany. Greetings Mattias

Greetings Mattias This is a horrific assault on a country of free people! I don't understand what putin believes he will accomplish besides trying to enslave 40 million people... Hopefully all of the other countries can put enough pressure on him to shut this down! I hope Alex and his family will be able to get to safe haven and there are enough brave souls willing to take up arms to ward off and defeat this invasion!

Hopefully yes, along with the 500,000 that have made it. God Bless and keep those safe who haven't, and have stayed back to fight! Prayers for Ukraine!!

In my short short PM conversations with him - I brought this up, too, as every news outlet (left, right, middle) talks about 18-60 males not being allowed to leave. But he is assured he has a way to exit legally, but nothing is assured - we can only hope and pray. Can't say much more on the subject without giving up too many of his personal details.
