Thank you for the detail feedback I appreciate you are right I can do that in the interim but I am surprise that AZL is putting on the market a loco without the standard TCS/digitrax decoders or a replacement this is not good business we in ZOCAL we operate all DCC on our layouts due to multiple locos running on the same track therefore dc is not good for us
thank you for your help and support Henri Seynaeve

There has to be an assumption that either AZL designed/requested a new ‘reliable’ solution or unlikely that AZL was surprised when the 1st tooling sample arrived.
Either way, it’s for the better, once new supplier boards arrive. One source (Zmodell) had the intelligence and quick adaptability plus a multi-mode chip for world formats. This is temporarily not viable.
As for TCS or Digitrax, I have had less issues with Digitrax, however, they have been supplying only a 2 function decoder (90+% more than enough for 1-2 head lights) and, the chip is nearly 8 years old. TCS has a 4 function, which allows for 2 additional light functions (e.g. Dirch Lights, Reverse [red] marker, beacons, cab lights or firebox flicker) used less than 10% of the installs. Still, essentially the same cost.
So this would be a chance for Digitrax to ‘update’ to the 4-function 14x series. Plus, there have been no problems with default BEMF (motor help) than some crazy ones with TCS.
Additional, there could be additional buffer Capacitors for better track power pickup issues.

Should have been stated prior to launch. This will luckily save me some money, as I will be in no rush to obtain any!

We are seeing this with Marklin locos as well, namely unusual and varying chassis choices. It seems like the foreign manufacturers are being allowed to do whatever they want. Maybe TCS or Digitrax will produce drop in boards for these new locos or maybe they will wait to see if this becomes a new standard or a one off design. I doubt either will want to mass produce a new drop in type decoder board based on a single sample. So, is this a new standard or is it not? Luckily it looks like wired decoders will fit just fine in these.
