Here is an interesting photo of the Lark. Note the E7s. There are not Daylight but the Golden State!!! We still have Golden State E7 sets in stock if you want to reproduce this. Here is the link to the site I found this image. www.american-rails.com/lark.html<button disabled="" class="c-attachment-insert--linked o-btn--sm">Attachment Deleted</button> An interesting image with an interesting story. SP received the first three sets of E7 in 1947 in Golden State paint, the only E7s built not in Daylight colors. The Golden State cars had not yet been delivered. SP used these locomotives for engineer training and qualification on the coast route. Because of the specific paint scheme, this image is probably from 1948. In this time frame, they could also be seen pulling the Daylight, Owl, or one of the mail trains. Here's some info on the E7 paint schemes: espee.railfan.net/spe-07.htmlMark Thanks for this. It does remind me that I used an E9 to pull my 1949 Sunset Limited (diesel but heavyweight cars) mostly because of a lack of choice – at the time AZL had no other Daylight locos available. Strictly speaking the 1949 version of the train could not have been pulled by an E9 ... what to do? I've grown rather fond of 6051.

We produced what would be historically correct. Given that we did not have tooling for any 10-6 at the time these cars were made, it just wasn’t possible. That being said, we have produced other cars that would make good additions to the cascade set and will continue to do so in the future. While I wasn't expecting you to model the "Cascade Club" car I was merely hoping you might have a new body style to announce. In researching the COSF I noticed the 10-6 became a very popular Sleeper in to the 1950s forward. For the COSF the principals ran 10-6s as well as the "guest" roads: both in Armour yellow and the home road colors. No complaints. I have paint and a number of CZ add-on cars. Mark You’re right: They’re the most common post war sleeper. I owned a 10-6... Lots of fun to take all of your friends on a trip! Poor thing (Warrior River) was later in a wreck on the CSX and scrapped on the spot. If AZL would release a Southern 10-6, it would surely make me feel better…

Technically there is a solution: re-number 6051 to 6018, SP's only E8. It was on the property in 1949 although I don't know if it was in Daylight or EMD demonstrator paint. Since I've been nagging about 6018 since the E8/9 was released, hopefully it's on the list for the next run.

So it seems that separate SP E7 b-units are not to be - which raises the question of whether to buy an a-b set before they are gone, hold out for the PAs, (which ran with E9s in the 1950s too), or just get another E9 to double head my 1949 Sunset Limited (given the historical fudge already of using one E9).

Perhaps a Part 1b issue for the SP E7B units, similar to the release of the single EL F7A in July ? If you note my earlier post above closely, you will see that Rob A. “liked” it. I think we can take that as a hint. Watch out tomorrow !

The chance of mutiny at the Ztrack headquarters is growing by the day... Bribing with craft beers only goes so far...

Well, the Loewy NP F7 set is here, accompanied by a rather strange SP bloody nose E8. The numbers 9047/9051 relate to the SD45 batch. The E9A preserved in the California Railway Museum at Sacramento is 6051. Looks like the 6/9 got transposed. Will the models:- 1) be withdrawn for the error 2) be discounted for the error 3) be ignored by modellers for the error 4) purchased as a collector’s item Or am I in error here ? ( Source used : Guide to North American Diesel Locomotives, Jeff Wilson, Kalmbach, 2017 ).

There must be a story here - two years after the last E9s, two more appear (they have to be E9s don’t they)?
