I saw this. So I wonder if Burlington (Northern) or even ATSF locos (togethher with corresponding caboose) could be seen pulling freight trains in MA in the 60's ? It would be an interesting add-on for my layout ... Or is it related with the newer "intermodal" system ?

That looks like a nice option! Are you familiar with Mass Coastal? I took some pics and video in May of a very colorful and interesting train rolling through Lakeville, MA, near my sisters house. The lead was Mass Coastal #1006, absolutely beautiful paint scheme, really interesting converted loco, and LTEX #3011, also nice, pulling a long load of railroad track. I would love to post them here but I have never been able to post on this forum from my phone. Files too big. I guess I have to use links but I have never done that and don't know how. But if you are game PM me your phone number and I'll gladly text them. Or email. Wicki has a nice overview of this local outfit.

Back in the 60's it was rare to see run-thru power like you do these days, where railroads owe each other "power" by using others locomotives for help when they're short on power. Most railroads kept they're locos to themselves back then.

BUT..you could always have a shop that rebuilds locos, or even an EMD, GE, or Alco locomotive factory on your layout, or an interchange and then you could see almost anything roll by in a loco consist!!

BN was born in 1971 from merger of Northern Pacific, Chicago Burlington & Quincy and Spokane Portland & Seattle. No chance to see any BN unit in the 60s, whichever the location. Dom
