QUESTION? Hi just got my two dcc velmo. dcc decoders LDS 27000-P To fit into these locos 88789 is a easy drop IN job before I start please been waiting. 6 months for decoders don't want to screw things up now I have decoders Attachments:

Hi guys before fitting the dcc decoder in the top of shell of loco there are wires running from the front to back for directional lighting do they need to be removed before decoder installed if so hows the best way of doing this please Attachments:

Hi Casey,
You chose pro version of the decoder for 218 diesels. Its installation is a bit more complex in comparison with basic version LDS27000. The last one does not need any additional work. Advantage of pro version is only that you can control head/taillights at the both ends independently. I don't know if you really need it, but as far as I know, most customers are fully satisfied with the basic version.
However, you already bought these decoders. To remove wires, use soldering iron with thin tip (about 1.5 mm). I strongly advise you to proceed extremely carefully and very quickly at the same time, as there is a big risk to melt down the housing if you touch it with a hot tip or proceed too slowly!

Greetings, Alex Hi Alex thank you for your reply I was advised to buy these decoder was not aware of any others still as you say bought them now am I correct in my thinking all wires have to be removed from loco and do know if lighting units can be removed for easy access to desolder the connecting wire please. many thanks for help and time given Casey

Yes, light units can be removed too. Just carefully push them inside using wooden toothpick.
