I installed Zmodell DCC boards in a couple of Alco RS loco's today and was thrilled to see the stock DC lighting boards were screwed to the chassis. This eliminates the sometimes difficult task of bending and forcing the boards into the friction fit clips on older frame designs. This has caused grief in the past as different PCB thicknesses required blobs of solder and other inaccurate remedies to get a good fit. Also the motor contacts now project above the frame so that they press directly against the PCB pads and no bendy and fragile clips are required to reach down into the frame, which increased the chance of poor contact or shorting out. This is a great evolution and I hope it will be the new standard. Good for more reliable DC operation and great for the installation of aftermarket DCC boards.

Sooo, Rob, do you know if the SW1500 locos will be able to use the same Zmodell DCC boards as the Alco RS series locos? How similar are the chassis.

Oh never mind, if the RS are 56’ long and the SW are only 44’ probably not!
