Eric, try this comparative test: Remove the Zmodell wagon Reprogram any other Loco (on Program Track or just simply a new decoder in a Loco) Place the default Address 3 Loco on the track. Try the test again. (It’s not really the same, but a data point as I can’t remember seeing this effect. However, that’s because we use 2 function decoders. The ultimate test would be the TCS ‘AZL4’ to see if the F1 and/or F2 functions work).
When you do these power ups, is it just one Loco or 2+? If just the Zmodell car, it may be the surge current when powering up. The Cab many not be able to read ‘is there a 3 addressed Loco’ in time (firmware issue). If so, try: Select Loco, 3, just to let the Cab know ‘it’s there’ but I am not sure how there start up polling works. I doubt it does, as any/loco would ‘pulse’ when it poles, as it uses motor current to acknowledge. More locos would seemingly make it work

No layout is complete without a disco wagon Husafreak, I hope You meant this ironically ...
Concerning myself the granddaughter (16 years) of one of my "visitors" said last year that some things were missing on my layout : 1) A cinema. OK, You can see that I added one (for 120 € total but I can say that I have something "more" than other modellers, thanks to her). BTW I read that some "cinema" railroad cars existed in the past, too, but they can't be found as models, at least in Z scale. 2) A disco : I am happy that I could use the excuse that such things didn't yet exist in 1965, at least in most towns (no, this is not a troll ... )

Key Holidays of Walnut Creek, California operates the Reno Fun Train in February/March from Sacrament to Reno on UP/Amtrak rail
I was in Korea a lot during 1990-2000’s. There were long hall buses that had lights, color balls and *MANY* dancing in the meandering rocking bus up the Kyungbu and Cheungbu expressways between Seoul and Busan/Pusan. Crazy stuff, especially during the nights.

Well, since we are officially "way off topic", we will have to compare Korea stories next time we're together Jeff. I averaged about a week a month there for the 5 years from 1986-1990, good times... No trains though.
