Were such (mobile) systems in use in USA in the sixties ? I saw one in the movie "Convoy" (Dirty Lyle Wallace) but the movie was made in 1978.

Yes. State police started using radar guns in 1949.

The instant-on, handheld radar gun was not developed until 1974. Tripod mounted were used in the '50s so trunk-mounted or dash-mounted would have been the type used in the '60s.....from what I can find on the internet.

Matchbox cars (toys for us but still made!) had a . ... . Radar Gun ! It had 2 selections: Matchbox and I think 1:1 ? selector. So, it was easy to math scale to 220 !! It was quite accurate based on distance/time references.
