I am a relative newcomer to Z scale and have enjoyed building several of the Archistories non-motorized kits. Has anyone built the Archistories Watermill kit? It includes a small 3v motor and 2 diodes. I am told by the manufacturer that the diodes are optional but do slow the rotation of the wheel for a more realistic effect. They also referred me to Facebook for instructions/illustrations of the wiring but I had no success locating any information. I have found a 3v power source but have no clue as to the proper wiring of the motor and diodes... information not included in the instructions. I would very much appreciate any help that you might offer.

If You wanna use a 3V DC supply, You could put one or more ordinary diodes (1N4007 for example) in series with the motor, ANODE to the + of power supply, CATHODE (silver ring) to the + terminal of the motor, and anode of one diode to the cathode of the other one if You are using several of them ; every diode adds a voltage drop of about 0.6V ; connect - terminal of the motor directly to the - output on the supply.

This is a situation where you really can't fail. Add the diodes to slow it down OPTIONALLY. Your voltage supply is 2 wires. The motor is 2 wires. Not much added detail beyond that is needed.

Not to confuse things but ... Kuhlmann used 6v source and several diodes to effectively drop the voltage down to BELOW 3v.
Again. 2 wires in from source ... Gang the diodes in series one way or the other (not anode orientation as there is a direction on diodes) ... 2 wires to the motor.
But for your case ... You say you have 3v source ... Plug directly to the motor and check speed - no diodes. It should already be close to the speed in Kuhlmann's video.

While not too smart to show the plugs essentially this plug end connects to your 3v source. Again, not much to mess up here.

I have built it and at 3v it turns very slowly.
