The 3rd AZL layout cooperation between Karl Sinn and I is well under way. The base module is the same size as "West of Caliente" and "Moffat East Portal". But this layout can be expanded. Where in the US is this? Somewhere in southeast Texas, Louisiana or Mississippi. And it is Winter which will give the layout a unique setting. Will be posting updates little by little. Stay Healthy!
Awesome! I spent a lot of time in Southeast Texas growing up. It is a beautiful area. Had family in Jasper and DeRidder, LA. Owned land just north of Jasper up until a few years ago. My mom joked that they went water skiing on the Sabine once and she skied with one foot in Texas and one in Louisiana. And about two minutes after she got back in the boat they saw a quite large gator...end of skiing on the Sabine for her--and later on--me.
I railfanned the area some...visiting the north part of the Sabine River & Northern but not seeing many trains, and then ATSF/BNSF operations in Jasper proper. And of course a few visits over the years to the Texas State Railroad a little further to the north. texasstaterailroad.net . Another interesting east Texas railroad is shortline Moscow, Camden, and San Augustine. And finally...while not southeast, (still pineywoods though) I make it out near Longview to my brother-in-law's hunting club which is right on UP's old T&P mainline with lots of action including Amtrak.
TIP: Invest in companies that make pine trees!!! Can't wait to see the results.
