This past weekend I continued working on the Mopac sleeper to diner car conversion. I got a variety of sandpaper in the mail so I was able to finish the filling and sanding. I measured where the portholes go and drilled them out. I'm not happy with one of them so I worked on relocating it. Once I get that done it will be ready for paint and decals.
I also had fun running trains....although not as many trains as Rob and his group did.

June 20, 2020 Track Plan Coming Together. I know the weekend isn't over but I'm pretty much finished for the weekend so I thought I would post this before I forget. I finished laying out all of the track today on the T-TRAK-Z modules. I miscalculated how much more track I needed and was short 4 pieces of the 220mm straights. Fortunately I had a supply of 55mm straights that I used and was able to complete everything.

In light of all the cool new loco releases I figured the CN railway needed an expansion. Enlarged the original layout by 50% and made space for some industry without looking crowded. Pretty neat to pull a 50+ car train and not have it tail to nose anymore! Scenery up next.

Will get more pics. You have a good eye, they are actually the walthers ADM, medusa concrete and I cant remember the rural elevator. I cut the hieght and building walls back in scale. They are still on the larger side but realistic enough for me. Im not big into scratch building structures so they get the job done well enough.

I painted the AZL Mopac sleeper to diner car conversion. It still needs some touch up and decals.

I finally finished the MoPac Dining Car. I typed up an article, complete with pictures, and sent it to Ztrack Magazine.

Very nice work! As I need a diner for my Eagle too, I will follow your description in the Ztrack Magazine (if it comes). The portholes on the kitchen side show the thickness of the material and the window glazing seem to be behind. May it be possible to fill a drop of clear resin in every porthole, so the glazing would be more in line with the other windows? Just a guess.

Thank you. It looks like I need to apply another coat or two of Kristal Kleer to the portholes.

I use Kristal Klear quite often. It´s a good tool for glazing. Might work very well. I´m curious how it comes out with the diner. Good tip, thanks!

I use it in all my older M-T F units and various other things, like cars.

This weekend I spent time running all of my locomotives. There are only a few with problems and I already knew about them.

I'm adding a FRED to an MTL short caboose. My train show bud Matt run's ~125 car trains at each and there is a periodic loss of cars (general a finger, stroller bump to the legs or the kids anxiously pulling them up to eye level. Matt's consist is virtually all MTL rolling stock so almost all are dark colors. So I thought to change out the brown Santa Fe for a bright yellow one. And some eye candy with the FRED. I don't like axle pickups, unless they are factory and a certainly cannot or do not want to change the running characteristics. I placed a 80 mA/Hr LiPo battery, Ngineering FRED Simulator (https://www.ngineering.com/lghting%20effects%20for%20the%20railroad.htm), "Details-N scale" Z scale FRED (https://detailsnscale.com/z_lighting_products.htm), Reed Switch and charge cable. The LiPo (lithium polymer) battery will run the FRED for days as the Ngineering board is designed for very low power and the LED 'ping' in near is not enough to drain it. I put a micro JST connector in the front door window, so it won't be seen when running as the FRED in on the opposite trailing end. Before/after shows, the small USB based charge board as a cable to plug in to charge the battery. The FRED has super micro 'magnet' wire that follows the floor and then bent up so I can attach it the rear railings. A Reed switch sits on top of the LiPo battery charge regulator board that points up into the Cupola. An external magnet changes the reed switches internals magnetic properties to close and open it. So no mechanical switches and no battery drain while in storage. Attachments:
