and what are the potential release dates? thats the most important question... Isn’t the esu nano decoder smaller than a z2? We do not have a release date yet - sorry - the photos are of paint samples. My personal estimate is sometime in late 2020. And you may be correct about the ESU Nano decoder, but I happen to have an extra TCS Z2 on hand, and I do not have an ESU - so I'm going to try the TCS first. Oh, and I took a few more pictures of my ATSF sample - I really like the "Zebra stripe" on this little locomotive. Another fun fact about the RS locomotives: we designed the coupler in a separate box with a screw. I've tested the MTL as a direct replacement and the fit is very tight, but it does work. We specified it that way because we knew some of you would want to do MTL style magnetic switching with, er... well... a switcher! I'm currently working to do the same with the SW1500 design BUT there is not nearly enough room between the truck and the end of the loco to get a MTL coupler box in there, so maybe it has to stick out the ends a bit? Thoughts?

The ESU Lokpilot 5 micro have not been released yet, Leastwise no US Dealer has them yet. It is reportedly going to be 8.0mm x 7.0mm and a thickness of only 2.4mm (on the capacitor: 2.9mm) However if they do like the did with all the LokSound decoders it will have the Next18 or PluX16 interface And be 13.0mm x 9.2mm. So Lets hope they do release the smaller hard wired version in addition to the Next18 version.
The ESU Lokpilot micro V4 was 10.5mm x 8.1mm x 2.8mm with the wires comming off the 8.1mm side of the board
The ESU Lokpilot Nano standard is 8.0 mm x 7.0 mm. It is only 2.4 mm high (2.8 mm at one position) with the wires coming off the 8mm side of the board
The TCS Z2 is 12.95mm. X 6.65mm. X 2.79mm and the wires come off the narrow end of the board
The Zimo nano is 8mm x 8mm x 2.4mm
The Digitraxx DZ123 series are 9.8mm x 14.5mm x 3.2mm
The Digitrax DZ146 series are 14mm x 10.3mm x 3.8mm)
The CTelectronik DCX77z is the smallest at 7.6mm x 5mm x 1.8mm

Really like the Zebra Stripe! Since you're throwing the pictures out there, got any of the C&NW?

I have had great success in sanding away both the sides and back of an MTL 903 coupler box, and screw mounting as essentially a stack of loose parts in tight body mount locations, and still have the couplers magnetically operate. This method holds the spring captive, yet still allows the the coupler to move left and right enough to operate in a tight mounting location. It's very fiddly to get the coupler mounted, but patience will prevail.
