Noticed a note on the 3 axle truck. To explain, the RSD-4 and RSD-5 used ALCO Trimount C trucks. Simply stated, all 3 axles were powered. The Trimount truck also had different lengths between the axles. Now ALCO also had locomotives called RSC-2 and RSC-3. It looks very much like an RSD-5, but uses a different 3 axle truck; A-1-A. The middle axle was idle (non-powered). AZL may add the RSC-2/3 in the future based on demand. Mainly export models.

D&RGW RS3 View AttachmentPrototype details include: Phase I Body, Bodymounted Numberboards, ALCO AAR Trucks, Dual Bulb Headlight, 1 single + 3 Chime Airhorns, Lengthwise Smokestack and 1400 Gallon Fuel Tank. Roadnumbers: 5202, 5203 & 5204 Hi Hans, I just noticed that the yellow rectangular with 'Rio Grande' is slightly positioned to high. It is in the middle over the yellow line, but should instead touch the yellow line Below it. It makes the difference in appearance. /Frank

Hi Frank, Good catch, but we are both correct. The RS3s originally had the yellow rectangular area higher. See delivery photo below: Not sure when the paint update happened, but probably 1957-58.

Hi Hans, Interesting livery details changes, now I see that there are even more differences. Patches at the nose became more yellow as well and the big road number on cab sides came. thx, learned again something new about D&RGW. link to RailPictures/Frank

Any chance North East modelers could get a Western Maryland RS-3. They had 13 on there loco roster.

New Haven suggestion for Run 2: black hood, soconyou red cab It's always good to see another EL fan! I was born in Marion, Ohio, the home for an Erie Lackawanna locomotive shop and major classification yard. The old Marion EL loco shop has been converted to a UTLX maintenance facility and I've been working on a small layout to model it, along with some CSX and NS operations. Fortunately, my layout is flexible enough, I can easily change it to model different era's and buildings, especially since it isn't close to being finished. I'm eagerly awaiting some AZL RS3's so I can model EL operations in the 60's - 70's! I've already picked-up some new EL and era-appropriate rolling stock and structures. That's one good thing about hearing in advance of new AZL locomotives in the works, I can let AZL and other Z supporters in my wallet even earlier. The EL had a huge number of RS3's. Here's a good shot of a bunch of them at the Marion yard, sadly towards the end of the EL's days. It'll be good to have the EL live again in Z!

D&H RS3 Prototype details include: Phase I Body, Body mounted Numberboards, ALCO AAR Trucks, Single Headlight, 3 Chime Airhorn, Crosswise Smokestack and 1400 Gallon Fuel Tank. Roadnumbers: 4120, 4122 & 4127 Wow. I don't know how I missed seeing this earlier. The RS3 in D&H colors is beautiful! I'll have to go for those, since the Delaware and Hudson and the Erie Lackawanna were both under the Dereco holding company arrangement in the late 60's to early 70's. And as luck would have it, here's D&H RS3 #4122 in back of EL #6321, in August of 1972. And here's an EL RS3, again with EL #6321, as well as #6311. #6321 sure liked the RS3's, no matter the flag. I guess you just have to love the RS3.

I have my TCS Z2 Decoders ready for implant Speaking of, I wonder if someone, oh, maybe Rob A...hint, hint... has checked this out, yet. Being able to readily digitize these, without being a brain surgeon, greatly increases my wallet emptying affliction. Also, how many flags is AZL planning to release a month? The more the better, of course.

Well, the RS-3s and RSD-5s are stateside. We look forward to finally starting the releases. If not by mid June, then early July. As AZL usual, one to two releases a month. Testing is going on at the moment.....
