True that. We are arguing minutiae details about cooling shields and such. And not many of us have the original brass models.
The bottom line is that we definatly need more B units. Then we can mix and match them with E8s OR E9s.

Yup you guts are absolutely correct. The first release in 2015 were UP E9s in a A- B set. 62600-3S UP E9 A 949 A, 965 B A-B Set 62600-4S UP E9 A 952 A, 968 B A-B Set This release is the E8 As. For those wondering about the cooling shields, here is a photo of our set from 2015 Note the extra pieces above the roof vents. Rob

But could we please get some B units? - either E8 or E9.

The interesting thing is, there exist pictures from Märklin 88626 without cooling shields, which are labelled as UP E8 B-Unit.... ....., but none of my friends has one. Best, Sven Sven, I finally got around to digging out my Marklin 88626 to compare it to the AZL version that I picked up used on eBay. Here are some pix.

Sorry but I don't know how to get over the two pix per post limit. There is almost no difference between the two other than the "giant fish hook" coupler and the road number. Note that BOTH units have the cooling shields on them. However, the Marklin package labels their engine as E8B while the AZL package calls theirs E8B - E9B. Confusing or what?

Regardless what the manufacturer calls the unit, the UP road number tells all:
E8A: 925-942 (1950) E9A: 900-914 (1956), 943-962 (1954)
E8B: 922B-949B (1950) E9B: 910B-913B (1962), 950B-974B (1954)
The cooling shields are more a matter of the era being modelled than a model type.

Well, my UP City of San Francisco train made it's way on to my Truckee River Layout today. These are beautifully constructed cars. The painting and printing are flawless. All of these cars can negotiate through my 145mm inner loop; except for the RPO Car, who's multiple stirrups interfere with the truck rotation. The Observation Car is equipped with a rear body mounted coupler and a closed skirt to give it a really nice appearance. AZL has really produce a wonderful set of Lightweight Passenger Cars. Thank you AZL!!! Keep up the great work! Bill Mock

Mark,
Bring what you can to the GTS Pleasanton show 3/23-24. I run mostly passenger runs outside of Matt's 100+ car trains.
