Not exactly prototype but since there is interest from a number of folks here with modeling California, here's a an example in "G" scale modeling the transcontinental line and several central California short lines. www.sacbee.com/entertainment/living/home-garden/article220862915.htmlNevada County was served by the NCNGRR (Nevada County Narrow Gauge RR) from Colfax on the Transcontinental line and which I tried to model in Nn3 and introduced me to Z. The Amador Central was a line that ran, where else, Amador county to Martell and the Kennedy and Argonaut mines. It ran until the late 1990's and exists today as a speeder line run a couple of times per year. Enjoy, Mark

Nice video/info Mark. This kind of stuff is right up my alley. I love California narrow gauge, and F scale (narrow gauge "G" scale) too.

Glad you enjoyed it. I find it unfortunate how all the short/industriallogging lines both narrow and standard have disappeared. Even the one that remain have been absorbed by holding companies like Omnitrax.
If there is ever any interest in modeling the NCNGRR let me know. There is very little on line but I have all the associated books. In the mid-1980s I thought the perfect line to model. It had all the features one would want to model. Unfortunately back then the only thing harder to get than the Nn3 locomotive castings were the Märklin chassis to go under them and I think Zn3 is a long way away.
