I'm afraid I got out of the habit of taking progress photos, so I've jumped ahead to the finished article. Martin Attachments:

Nice work. It hits all the bells and whistles I want on my layout. Tunnels, bridges, elevation, view blocks and a nice little town/industry.

Wow, Martin! Your layout exemplifies everything we find so appealing about Z scale. You've captured an entire community & surrounds in great detail in a compact space. Very nice! When do start the next one? Lol

Trey and Deb - many thanks very much for the nice comments - I just need to get the coffee table made to fit it into and then I'll be done. It's taken around a year from the start of the planning so I think I need to try something else next! Martin

Nicely done. Most people start with the coffee table and then do the layout. May I suggest you look for a table that's 6-12" higher than typical. The extra height gives a much better view when you're sitting next to the layout.

Thanks Mark - I plan to discuss it with the person who is hopefully going to make it for me as its way beyond my joinery abilities. Martin

The "level 0" of my layout is about 71 cm (28") from bottom, the "peak" (hills ! ) will be 6" to 6.5" higher (plus perhaps a fire watchman's tower) ; it could be raised via telescopic legs ; 70 cm was the height of my former N layout, too ... I think it is a "good" height.

Welcome to Z scale and congratulations for your work , Martin. However, keep in mind that for better appearance and better operation one should avoid direct linking of a curve to a counter-curve. One should always insert between them a straight track segment, at least as long as the longest piece of rolling stock to be run. Dom

That looks awesome, and it looks like Canada! Amazing what can be done in Z scale.
