Working on something for myself. I'm photo etching a Z scale Norfolk and Western Auxiliary water tender out of brass.

Wow, great work! Photo etching is so neat. Is it complicated to etch relief, such as the rivets, into a part?

Wow, great work! Photo etching is so neat. Is it complicated to etch relief, such as the rivets, into a part? Thank You! The rivets aren't complicated, it's just a matter of knowing the limitations you can do at home. Professional etching companies can have finer details, which I've used before. You have great results at home though.

I've read a little on this, but would you recommend a site or book that goes into some detail as to how you set it up. I know it can be temperamental (voltage, temperature...). Do you CAD your design then laser print the photo-resist? Or laser print the brass itself? Fascinating process...opens up a whole set of interesting modeling opportunities... Awesome work, by the way.

Awesome work, by the way. There are several videos on YouTube about this process. It's actually an in depth operation. I do my artwork on autocad and then it's printed on a transparency sheet.

Working on soldering the y6a tender together using my resistance soldering unit. Once it’s soldered all the fine tuning of shaping and shifting can happen.
