In the current issue of Ztrack, I have an AZL inspired track plan concept for the Montana Rail Link. With AZL offering both the MRL SD45 and SD70ACe, I know I wanted to do a large track plan around the MRL. AZL's modern offering a perfect for this concept layout, especially with the large amount of BNSF equipment now available. You can also find in the new issue of Ztrack: AZL’s ES44ACs are now here! Trafouchs 4 Seasons in Z Hood decals complete Chessie GP30 Marklin summer new items Rokuhan’s new C11 steam locomotive Artitec’s ready made accessories New MTL offerings And so much more…. MRL is definitely on the list of "most model-able railroad in Z". It's one of my favorite railroads...I followed it from Day 1 and the spectacular locomotive derailment they had during the first few days of operation, and still want to try and heavily incorporate the MRL look and feel to a "protolance" layout I hope to build when I retire. (long time from now)
A surprisingly large amount of MRL equipment made visits to Texas on BNSF trains via Colorado, and I do want to have that MRL contingent represented in my roster eventually. I've always loved their SD40's and hope I can cobble one together someday but if not I'm always keeping an eye out for a good deal on an SD45. (which conveniently also can be used for a mech on an SD40) Other option would be the F45, but my budget doesn't allow me to play in the brass arena and I'm doubtful Z will see a plastic one in my lifetime. (long time from now, hopefully!)
I had subscribed digitally but didn't get an offer to re-up so you might want to contact your marketing department. :-D I'll go re-subscribe now.

Got my issue last night....GREAT article and that would be a really fun layout to have. Overall a well thought out scheme.

Thanks Doug! It was a lot of fun coming up with this concept. I think John really nailed the art for the plan!
On the renewal, you would have received a letter and a post card. Checking though, it looks like you have a new address. I am wondering if these got forwarded to you.

Oh, yeah....never realized you would even send snail mail. I would prefer everything just be digital.

While wasting my life away surfing wonderful Flickr photos of trains, I came across this pic... www.flickr.com/photos/john_leopard/21885194156Aside from the relevance to this thread, I encourage anyone to peruse this gentleman's photos...a really awesome collection from a wide variety of locales.

A good source of railroad pics is RR Picture Archives www.rrpicturearchives.net/editorPicks.aspxMy link points to the editors picks and he has great taste. I too could 'waste' plenty of time browsing such lovelies.

I too am a fan of MRL, since it's on the old Northern Pacific rails. I did some MRL SD40-2XR mods back in the day: Attachments:
