The one issue with using wired locos, so you think is going to solve all your problems is: Power pickup and motor contacts. Some will drill and tap for brass screws, arcane, leaves metal shards in the gear-lube plus WAY to much man-handling causing more problems! And soldering onto the motor’s phosphor-bronze ain’t good for them. The Plastic in that tiny end goes thru to core contacts onto the motor rotor.
But sometimes ya just gotta due it

You literally took the most finicky loco to start with. I had issues learning Digitrax at the Club build after(and still) using NCE. I looked up the system and found a U-tube of an unpacking and test turn on: . At 12-14 minutes is the starting point.
First that came to mind was you either are on Program Track (because AZL locos draw so little current that you can on the Digitrax 100mA limit of Prog Track Next was the Track Power wiring. Make sure it truly the connect holes. And, Obviously, Track Power LED on both Throttle and Command Station indicate. I assume that not Loco 0 or Analog could ever be out-of-box.
If you have a Programming Track, great. If not, get one because you can’t use the layout with other electronics attached.

The wife and I will be with Alex for several days, end of the month and on to Altenbeken ‘meet’ 4-5 May. We frequently collaborate (both electronics engineer) for the love of trains. There have been some creative ideas over the years, its just how to implement and like AZL, volume vs. cost. First, we go to the OWL’s Nest for OPS session Friday: www.uszlines.de/2.htmlAltenbeken Saturday: f.z-freunde-international.de/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=21709You likely may need to register: www.z-freunde-international.de/Then back to the OWL’s Nest Sunday for another OPS session.

Mo’ betta. Will that have access to grain? Could use it for a rervesing track too. I’ll be realigning and adding spurs when I pull my Z-Bend Track modules into the house layout.

And you will be surprised where the layout ‘lives’.

Sometimes it’s because the trucks center is between two axles and not directly over the middle axle (for a 3 axle truck). But for a 2 axle it may just be the worm gear drive the gear engagement angle being a push rather than a pull.

Smaller Rapido pens create ultra fine lines. They come standard with ink (refillable) or ‘pencil’ for fine lines. I use them for pavement and roof patching. Also for Tagging 😙

There are Pre-Orders, just so ya know. Most Dealers keep up with proposed release announcement. Then take your preorder. It doesn’t have to be the biggest sight or a site you have never used.

About 90% of modules are orthogonal (most are 90, then 45, etc.) About all are 2 parallel tracks, spaced from a fornt edge. Zmod of Norway has same front offset as Z-Bend Track [ZBT for ease of typing] but ‘half’ the ZBT (using only one side, similar to T-track.
About 25 years ago, the Bill Kronenberger formed the ZBT as ‘standard’ for many of us to get together. Fairly successful. The ZoCal group (Southern Cali) has Dozens of ZBT modules. But many did not have room or desire so just maid their own. I have now had my zbt modules for 22 years but have only taken them only to shows, a real waste. So now with permanent housing (the past 5 years) I am deconmising them for house use. Some that are just scenic will be cut in half (lengthwise) whereas Modules with a lot of components and End modules will make up the Corners.
The only Z ‘Free-Mo concept I have seen was Daniel Baechtold of Switzerland, modeling single track Canada.
