I would like to suggest that you try to run the locomotives with just the 9-volt battery. Do not put them on the track just touch the battery to the locomotive wheels. If all of your locomotives work disconnect the snail speed controller from the track. Put one of the locomotives on the track and touch the track with just the 9-volt battery. If the locomotives run on the track with the 9-volt battery, the problem is probably with either the snail speed controller or the AC adapter.

Yep...or try to replace it with a MTL coupler.

Past clinics are available to NMRA members on their website. The clinics from this year's convention will be available to NMRA members on their website sometime after the convention.

Scott, I have looked up data comparing the 2 vehicles you mentioned. The Ford pick-up you referenced compares to the Chevrolet 3100 series of truck. The pick-up truck by Showcase Miniatures measures out correctly for the Chevrolet 3600 series of truck. Comparing the smaller Ford pick-up to the larger Chevrolet pick-up is like comparing apples to coconuts. The only way to determine scale accuracy is to measure the model and compare those measurements to the specifications of the real thing. That is what I did.
I agree with you about Madaboutcars models. I have a decent collection of those too and I'm impressed with the accuracy of his work. I have both the Showcase Miniatures truck and the Madaboutcars truck you referenced. I like them both.
It's unfair to say that the model is the wrong scale because it "looks wrong".

Hi Scott,
Do you have one of the Showcase Miniatures 5-window truck models? Have you measured one?
I just measured the one I built. It exactly matches a 1954-55 Chevrolet model 3600. Chevrolet had 3 models of the 5-window pick-up. Each model had a different wheelbase. The 3600 was the mid-sized version.

Everybody is making this way too complicated. As long as you have the polarity of the transformers matched there won't be any problem. I have a simple on-off switch for each of the tracks in the yard. I turn the switch on, verify that the direction switch on the transformer is in the right direction and drive the train onto the track.
I have built the on-off-on type of connection you're describing for switching between transformers, but I only use it to control blocks for different operators when we set up a large layout at the NMRA National Train Show. I completely isolate one module and use this set-up to determine which transformer is controlling that module. Its only purpose is to keep trains from running into each other.

I have 2 yards that run on separate transformers. A third transformer runs the mainline that the yard is connected to. I use plastic rail joiners to separate the tracks. You need to be sure you have both transformers operating in the same direction. You might need to adjust the speed but the loco will run just fine across the isolation point without any problems.

You are reading the information correctly. You may put both (or more) locomotives on the track facing either way and they will all run in the same direction down the track.
