Another image: After doing a few side-by-side comparisons, I decided it wasn't worth removing the plow and possibly damaging an expensive and beautiful locomotive. Maybe someone on the forum will find a way to successfully modify one of these trucks with a longer coupler, or even better, install a working coupler with some sideways movement in the plow and share it with the rest of us. View AttachmentGood point. Let me look into it, but will be September before I can do much as I’m traveling all of August. I think the “solution” will be a AZLlabs produced replacement coupler for the fixed plow that will allow it to swing, but not come out of the socket. You will need to manually couple to that replacement part, but that’s the same situation as currently exists, so should not be a big deal. How does that sound?

Since this post and my direct email to AZL have been met with crickets, I think it’s safe to assume the ALCO PA can not run in an A-A-B-A configuration unless your layout has wide radius curves. The front truck replacement does not exist. They do exist. Available from azldirect. www.azldirect.com/parts

It was all of the smoke from the Canadian wildfires. That makes more sense than anything else I know of.

...never noticed the AZL logo in the upper left has a shadow about it now, hmmmm..... Like an eclipse? I was wondering the same thing! Honestly no idea what’s going on with that one.

And why not make a RS-3 in NYC colour scheme ? We did... ...but after production we discovered that they had COMPLETELY WRONG road numbers on them (Our mistake) so they we not released.

I think it will be the second run of the UP E-8’s that go with the COLA consist. Rob noted they were 30 days out a month ago. 30 day delay due to a damaged mold that required repair. Sh!T happens.

I'm not into Z scale myself; for my old eyes and inept hands HO is really small enough! But I write regularly for the B ridge Line Historical Society Bulletin, the monthly publication of a group of Delaware & Hudson fans. All members who write for it and help produce it are volunteers; only the printer gets paid. I read about AZL's D&H PA's in a commercial magazine and will be writing about them and the RS-3's I spotted on AZL's website, but I don't see prices for that latter. Thanks for any info on this you can provide! Correct. We do not provide a MSRP (Manufactures Suggested Retail Price) or a "List" price. Pricing is up to each individual dealer.

AZL "are what they are". They make great stuff. Hopefully they'll eventually get to the key pieces I need to even attempt my dream layout in Z. Remind me again, what are those “key pieces” you are looking for?

It seems you cannot pull metal wheels from an AZL and install onto an MTL car. Buy Wills Wheels linked previously (for smaller packs via my site) and Anthony (ZSM) stocks larger packs, if i recall correctly. Different conical connection of wheels to the trucks. A metal wheel is not universal. Correct. Our AZL wheels do not fit in MTL trucks. In addition to Wills Wheels, I believe Fox Valley once made Metal replacement wheels for MTL rolling stock. I’m unsure of the status of that product. Note that Intermountain’s hoppers were made with our AZL trucks.

an interesting note, i see there is this brass weight ubder the boiler shell i do not have a measurment on it but if you drilled a 3/16 or similar hole thru the core of that brass slug you could then get a bit of tungsten rod and glue it into the brass shell with a bit of locktight red or something compareable for a solid increase in weight..there is also tungsten/copper rod out there. AZL could in fact consider finding a place that does lazer 3d metal printing DMG Mori machien's comes to mind that prints in a metal powder bed that could in fact probably print tungsten loco weights en mass www.youtube.com/@dmgmoriMost factories do NOT like working with tungsten powder due to safety / flammability issues. Those that do make golf clubs, and charge accordingly. 😉

Back in the June 2021 video highlighting the Golden State, you said that the train would be in really limited supply but "Don't worry. We will make more ". True, but never said when that would happen! And you are correct - there are some other factors in the process.

I purchased one of the original passenger sets along with the locomotive sets to go with! Very curious to know…Is there another rerun on the horizon for this (passenger)name train? It sold out very quick! And if so what is the ETA! Thanks, Ken No plans for a rerun of the Golden State at the moment. Congratulations - you have a rare gem!

I add (again) a picture of my former "vintage-like" control panel, with mechanical interlocking keys. I could add control lights with "warm white" leds to simulate old bulb lamps, as a feedback in conjunction with ... speech commands, or (instead) even a speech synthesis through the earphone of a headset. Which version would "look" better for a 1965 layout, this one or a "hitech" panel with a touch screen (with icons) and two tumblers ? I am awaiting Your opinions ... I cannot comment because my layout is DCC 😉😎
