Interesting yes. viable, no
The same goes for the Centipedes and the Erie Builts. Just too few operators. Maybe as brass locomotives if we ever got back to brass production.

The NS version is not a high hood. The paint scheme is known as horsehead. Best, Hans

Great that you posted this. I have personally tuned several through the years and it is amazing that so many C44-9W and C40-9W locomotives are still running on various layouts. 500 were made, first as NS, BNSF, ATSF and UP. Later repaints included SP, C&NW and BNSF Heritage. Now a small correction. These were never a RLW product, but rather the first AZL locomotive. Intended to be a RLW product with chassis made by RLW and body by AJIN in Korea, RLW closed its doors for good when the brass bodies arrived in the US. I put the bodies in storage in Los Angeles and ordered C44-9W chassis from AJIN. Upon completion I flew to LA and assembled the locomotives in a motel. Those were the days Should have ordered new AZL stickers for the C44-9W boxes, but ran out of time. Thus the RLW name lingered on.

Yes, no savings on ordering undec´s from our factory. No unwillingness on our part, but with all our locomotive options, undec´s really cannot meet most modellers expectations. The only exception is our old GP38 that we may do another undec run at one point.

Hope you mean SP SD40T-2, not SP SD40-2 And we will make a 1990 - 2000 version of the UP SD40-2 at a later date (fun to work with UP and BN SD40-2s which I saw many times in action when I lived in the US in the 1980s)

Correct about the ATSF road numbers. I only found two as well.

Locomotives The motive power of name trains is as important as the passenger consist. Except for the WP FP7s, AZL offers all designated locomotives used on the original California Zephyr. CB&Q: F3s and E7s (released this month!) D&RGW: F3s and PAs WP: F3s Occasional use of F7s happened on the D&RGW, but they were not designated to the Zephyr. We still have not produced the single black stripe D&RGW locomotives, but we have those in mind for future production runs.
Passenger Car Consist As mentioned in earlier correspondence, the CZ had 6 complete train sets. AZL initially produced 4. And if I am not mistaken, we have released three so far.
Note: For Rob and I, this was our first true name train. The great response to the CZ has led to the AZL ATSF Super Chief, the ATSF El Capitan and the UP City of Los Angeles. And now we are working on the SP Coast Daylight! We will not stop at that and promise to keep Z scalers happy!

Large shipments from China now takes quite a bit longer time than before. There are red tape on both ends and each shipment seems to live its own life until it arrives at AZL. Hope to have two SD40-2 releases out to dealers before year end. The 30 days will include custom clearance out China, transportation, custom clearance into the US, transportation to AZL in D.C., repackaging and transportation to Ztrack in Ohio, product testing in Ohio. I think it is doable unless something happens!
