My local hobby shop (TRF Trains And MNT hobbies) has both FEC 102, 105, 107 and a few CSX Gp38-2s, Here in Melbourne, Florida. FEC Is king! I ride my bike every once in a while to the nearby RR crossing, And back home at night I can hear trains horns!
Why should somebody swap the shell for a Shapeways shell? The result can never be better than the original one, evens it has a low level of detail.
you would swap the shell if you wanted a non dynamic brake GP38. and I think the detail could be even better than the original. It is a better option for me because I don't have the modeling skills to combine different shells, chassis, etc. With a shapeways shell just add handrails and a few details and your done.
I plan on ordering a couple of z buildings off shapeways to see the level of detail that is being produced before I dive in on a shell.
I believe it's "Miniatures by Erik" that I saw the Dynamic Brake blank that he sells miniaturesbyeric.com to remove the DB housing. Then get the Micron Art 1201 detail kit for the GP38's. Make a worthy non-DB GP38-2 in no time!
