Hi all, just getting into Z scale after 20+ years in N. I am looking to model some of the trash trains I see a lot of but the biggest hurdle seems to be the containers. Does anyone make 20' trash containers? Looked at Shapeways briefly but without any luck.

Keith,
Welcome to the forum and welcome to Z.
I'm not aware of any such containers in Z. The closest I can think of are some commercial dumpsters. San Francisco ran a garbage train for years using nothing more than old gondolas and hoppers.

We do make F89 intermodal flats that would be the perfect base for a trash train. 3D printing from shapeways is the perfect way to go. Best Rob(A) AZL

Hi Keith, and welcome!! Any way to take some short containers, and cut the roofs off? Maybe then make some tarps for the top container, if your doing like double stack trash trains?

thanks for all the ideas! I did find open top containers which would work but I was looking specifically for the type like what Atlas makes in N scale. I also have seen the BNSF trash trains that run out of Vancouver that use old 40 foot containers that I could do. I am still in the planning stage for my layout. Right now I have one AZL 64' reefer and a small section of track. Hope some more stuff coming via father's day and after some sell off on ebay. Keith
