Indeed, there is a small company in Austria that is doing special models for Switzerland as well. This Swiss crocodile is one of there special paint offers. Here is another chance to acquire some of the fantastic brass passenger cars by SZL. In my eyes it is the most beautiful, most colourful set (4003). For those who like to model the German Railways (Deutsche Bahn, Epoche 3), there is a nice way to combine the SZL passenger cars with German ones. For example, train D 183 "Bavaria" connects straight through from Geneva (Switzerland) to Munich (Germany) via Lindau. Here is the whole train in Z (with only a very few compromises). Interesting & beautiful, isn't. The steam engine, btw, is one of the most famous Pacifics we ever had in Europe, a BR 18.6 !! Best, Sven

For those who are not so familiar with this quite rare locomotive, here a few background information; The Ae 3/5 is not necessarily one of the most famous Swiss locomotives. The 26 copies were delivered to SBB by the Sécheron studios in Geneva from 1922 to 1925, and should mainly be used to transport light express trains in western Switzerland. With a weight of 81 - 85 t and a power of 1350 kW, the short locomotives were amazingly powerful and really fast with a top speed of 90 km/h for the time. The very advanced Westinghouse drive with its quiet running and the low unsprung mass allowed for this speed. Due to the short wheelbase and the simple running axle frames, the locomotives had a bad behaviour in curves, so that on uneven tracks even a driving ban for the Ae 3/5 had been imposed. Almost 60 years in operation, the locomotives experienced many changes. Originally painted brown, they were then given the usual green paint in the 1940s. The front doors were closed and the transition plates removed. On the roof and on the side walls, different ventilation openings were installed. Partially, a current collector was removed in the 1960s, but a remote control for operation with control cars was installed. The modernized locomotives were used on the Gotthard and Simplon before autotransport trains. Most of the locomotives remained in western Switzerland and were used with higher age in subordinate services. In addition to passenger and light freight trains, they were even used for the shunting service. The Ae 3/5 were discarded and scrapped until 1982. The still existing 10217 was worked up in the style of the early forties and is stationed in the Depot Bern as a fully functional historical vehicle. zettzeit.ch/shop/index.php?language=en&cPath=1_19Best, Sven

This is a normal green/grey Maerklin Crocodile, a little bit tuned by Jens.
